BrassFusion Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 So I'm a machine operator now in a plastics and fiberglass plant! This is a far cry from customer service and teaching. I feel so blue-collar. Someone get me a beer.
Daevion Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 wow, that is the kewlest thing I've ever heard....hands down
Fierce Critter Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Congrats. =) I was a white collar worker for 13 years. My first "blue collar" job was in a plastics factory. I hated the place, but loved the work. Office politics were non-existant. You knew EXACTLY what was expected of you - it could be measured on a scale and seen with your eyes (a half-formed plastic mug is pretty easy to spot). I was free to think my own thoughts for 8 hours a day. Since then, I've worked only blue-collar jobs. Stockperson at a ceramics shop. Seasonal temp at State Parks with the Michigan DNR. Stuff like that. And now I'm self-employed selling vintage & other items on eBay. I can never, ever go back to an office/white collar work again. I couldn't sit back and take the bullshit. The DNR job was, by far, the hardest I've ever done in my life. I cried more than once on the job, it could be so physically taxing for a weakling like me. But I'd go back to it in a milisecond. So would my husband. Oh. And I hated beer before I worked Blue Collar, and I hated it after. But put me back in an office, and the first thing I buy with my paycheck will be a gallon jug of the hardest liquor I can find.

Blue collar Michigan rules for getting a job that doesn't require a degree. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I am, but the only reason for that is that this will be my first full-time job and I'm still going to teach on the weekends. And I wouldn't have gotten this job if I didn't know the HR supervisor through the Warren Concert Band. Last night I did fiberglass shit for a while and then they had me work an injection mold. Everyone complains about how hot the side is with the injection molds and about how it's so much "better" doing the fiberglass, but I got that shit all over my skin. I really hated that. Fiberglass all up in my grill. Dayamn.
Hellion Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 :devil Let me know,if they are hiring.and what they pay and what shift.Day shift would be best because I plan on going back to school soon.
