That’s the way the cookie crumbles

I can sort of see both sides to this.

Yes, it's kinda shady to sneak around people's houses that time of night, knock on the door and take off.

They also said this lady lives in a rural home. Typically, well, at least when I was younger and still lived in a rural area, there were curfews. It could be that they were breaking curfew.

They didn't want to go to the school dance because there (sic) might be drinking and cursing. Okay, lemme just say this: If that's REALLY the reason they didn't go to the dance, I applaud their effort and I'd like to shake their hands, in person, and congratulate them on being the upright moral citizens that the US needs.

On the other hand, because I really really do doubt that WAS the reason, it does actually seem a little shady to do this. Making people cookies? That's all well and good. But why wouldn't you do it in the daytime where people can see you? Are you trying to prank people and make them feel worse than you are because you're not at the school dance?

As I already stated, I can see both sides on this one.

It seems kinda crazy to me too, but I can see it. I have actually done such a thing. Cf course, I wouldn't have missed a dance for it, but I think it is credible enough in a rural town and with the right parents.

10:30 at night, yes it seems late but how late was 10:30 when you were a 17 years old? I even understand doing it under cover of night, if they wanted people to know it was them, they would have used their names instead of "the T&L club". Seems silly, but understandable in the mind of <er> simple rural girls.

What time does it get dark there in july? Kinda late, right?

I think it is utterly ridiculous. Besides, she turned down the offer to pay the bills in favor of the chance for punitive damages. Why give it to her now? She declined that bargain.

i took it as two young girls, relaitivly nieve, trying to do something nice, but the way they went about might not have been 100% correct, but i see no use in any one sueing them especially after the parents offered money and apologies.

this is one of those stupid lawsuits that could have been taken care of in other manors besdies the court, i see the points every one got out of the story, as i tought about them too

it is just the first one that came to my mind was Well no wonder there are fewer and fewer good smaritians out there these days.

I also saw that with all the crime and other important things why did this lady have to tie up our legal system for this, i mean all she got was $900, which i am sure did not cover the ER room costs. I just stuck me as a stupid lawsuit.

It's really a topic for another thread, but briefly: Where I lived in <<very>> rural southern Ohio, my nearest neighbor was at least two miles away. My parents were quite strict and I never went to a sleepover as a child or a teen, never went "next door" to visit friends or any of the things that "normal" kids do. So, truthfully, I had pretty poor teen experiences to compare to other situations.

I think that lady was a loon. To still be shaking the next day. If she was that scared she should have called the police right then.

People piss me off anyway. I may start a new thread about how people piss me off. Wont be today though.

just so you know i also thought 10:30 was bit late to give out "surprises" but i also dont think kids think about about the proper time to be nice, and i would also assume that there deffination of rural is not actually that rural, they gave these surprises to more then one neighbor, so the houses must be fairly close to each other, as there was no mention of a car in the article, they must have been walking.

I have to say that I agree.

The nice girls with the cookies made her shake all night? Give me a f*cking break!

you try and be nice and what happens... you get sued

i could never move over your side

I agree with Lestat and Lilith.

I have to agree that the lady was a loon. How rediculous to sue kids for trying to do something nice. Especially after they apologized. People these days have just gotten out of hand with the whole law suit thing. They should have appealed it. Total bullshit.

Up until i got to this part:

Apologies called insincere

The teenagers’ families offered to pay Young’s medical bills, but she declined and sued, saying their apologies were not sincere and were not offered in person.

I was >trying

But if that above quote is true, ok lady, move on with your life.
