Cable internet\wireless question

I have a wireless network set up and it works well for my daughter's laptop which is pretty close to the router, but this one in my bedroom won't always connect, and also the speed is slightly less than the computer that's directly connected. I think the reason it drops connections is the distance - it's the farthest from the wireless router. I can't move the router because I'm not allowed to run wireless from my work computer (their VPN is set up not to accept wireless connections).

I do have a cable outlet in here. What would happen if I bought a second cable modem and connected it to the cable in here so that I wouldn't have to use the wireless connection for this computer?

Would that work at all? Would I need to buy an extra IP address?

Yeah you'd need another IP address, but it is a possibility.

Your best bet is to run wired. Buy a nice long ethernet cable and hook it into your router. Hell pay gas and buy me food and I'll wire your entire house up, or make it wireless AND make it work properly.

I'm really quite good at what I do and I say that with absolutely no ego.

Thanks. I'm 3 hours from Detroit at the moment and renting, but I may take you up on that if I get a house. Ideally when I find a permanent dwelling I'd like to have all the bedrooms, kitchen and living room and basement wired for the net. I'd love that.
