Thank Your Lucky Stars That You Avoid The Sun

in the thousands of years people have been on this planet i'm sure the ozone layer has gone through numerous ups & downs - i'm more inclined to believe that the major cause of cancer in the world today has little to do with the sun, and a lot to do with the crap chemicals, medicines, pesticides, etc., that people are exposed to on a daily basis. to pose an honest question, has anyone done any research on remote tribes/peoples who live off the land/have little exposure to the chemically laced products we all ("civilized" society) consume? i would be very interested to see stats regarding the incedents of cancer in those communities. i'll bet it's quite low, when compared with most of the non-3rd-world nations, especially the us... i mean, seriously, what kind of chemicals are in that sunscreen people slather all over themselves? what do you think are the chances that something in that will be found to cause cancer as well?

(sorry, onyx, i'm not picking on you, just kind of venting... hope i'm not coming across too poorly!)  =)

:devil Anyone ever heard of the chemical called DNN,it causes cancer immediately

The ozone layer is damaged, so the UV rays are much heavier than they were.  From what I have read this is a major reason for the huge increase in skin cancers even with the use of sunscreens.

Preach it, lady!

Hell, if you still get a deep burn after putting on SPF 50 every 20 mins just to be on the safe side, uh yeah, be worried.

Yeah, tanning sucks. Unfortunately through a series of mishaps I have unwhittedly tanned. (blah) Not much mind you, but it is still there...those taunting lines of evilness from being outside to long. And to think I had on SPF 70! DAMN YOU SUNBLOCK!!!

Sun-block, doesn't. It's all sun-screen

Also most sun-screens only block out the type A UV rays, and do hardly any type B UV rays if any at all.

The only time I get any long exposure to the sun is when I'm playing door goon at I-Rock when bands load in equipment. Most of the time I stand behind the door too. I can't stand the sun and avoid it at all costs. Eventually I'll figure out a way to go outside only at night or live underground.

I totally agree. I cannot stand being out in the sun at all. Shit, just looking at the florescent lights at my work makes me wanna put my shades on. The fact that I have to drive in the sunlight gives me a headache. Its too bright and I end up with one arm becoming darker and darker. I wear sunscreen and all but it doesnt prevent my skin from tanning.

I don't like the sun, which is why I am glad I work third shift. It's too bright, tans your beautiful pale skin and can cause skin cancer.

I'm still pissed that my driving arm has a tan. It sucks. The sun will destroy your tattoos.

LOL that is screwed up. One time I traveled down to Tennessee in the summer and I got my left arm sunburned from the damned sun and my other arm was still pale.

Ugh!

I mean, the sun is pretty and all, but I don't want color. Color is bad for you. My kids have a tan, and that bugs me. I just don't want anything bad to happen to them. I work with a girl who had a lot of skin cancer removed last year, and I don't want that happening to my kids!

Just hope that they do not grow up to be the "tanning" type, those who lay out in the sun all of the time or go to tanning booths. My sister does that. I don't understand it. Some sun is fine because that is how your body converts vitamin D with the sun and your skin. But tans and that? I don't understand that.

I used to be the tanning type. For as long as I can remember, I was a sun bunny. That all changed when I was 36. I was at the pool with my kids. They had just passed the swim test, so that they could go into the deep end. I was watching them diving off the board, screaming "Mom! Look at me!!!!" as I sat on the edge with my feet in the water. I smelled something burning. I fugured it was someone barbecuing, but it was a weekday and grills weren't allowed. I soon realized that it was ME who smelled like pork.

I got out of the pool, told the kids we HAD to leave. They weren't happy. I was just plain freaked. I just KNEW it was me who smelled like that after I got into my car and headed home. Now, I avoid the sun if at all possible.

The worst part about driving in the day time is I CAN'T FUCKING SEE! I have to squint and that's not even driving towards sunrise/sunset.
