slingerlandstyx Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 What like: "Scaryguynians"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, it's taken already... That's what we call people who have successfully kicked a CC addiction. lol
phee Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 No, it's taken already... That's what we call people who have successfully kicked a CC addiction. lol Heh
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I am a banana. :peanutbutterjellytime <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm Hannah Banana.......... :grin
DJ Nocker Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 GOTH... Is a 4 letter word. has the letter "G" has the letter "O" has the letter "T" has the letter "H" That is all
Paper Hearts Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Goth = Goth was a conscientious rock movement that really died about 1993 or so (generously). Since then it's mostly been people who are so fucking hopeless that they have to go extremes to feel even remotely cool. -Many of those people make their own music for self-validation. Basically it's a collection of people who didn't know what the music was while it was a real thing or who spent those years calling anyone Goth or anyone not into Steve Miller or CCR an art fag. The style is basically anything black, as long as it's trashy, inspired (seemingly) by the look that used to be called Gen X in pornography 8 years ago and which actually bears no resemblance to how actual goths used to dress.

I actually kind of like your definition.
Scary Guy Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Ok I give up. From now on I'll defer to you. Everything is goth. Jim Morrison is goth, Black Sabbath is goth, Joy Division is industrial, there is no longer any true goth and all those new Dark Wave and Death Rock bands don't really exist and goth fashion came before goth music, which is The Doors and Black Sabbath and not Evanescense because they are posuers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You still don't get it. EVERYTHING is goth to a degree. Even Evenescence though they aren't as goth as Lacuna Coil, which is not as goth as Black Sabbath, which is not as goth as Joy Division (which is part goth AND part industrial, though they are in fact more goth than industrial). Joey Deadcat Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Then we should try to establish a new term, rather than an updated definition. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There already are. Pseudo-goth is one. Graver is another. And the black metal kids here need to accept that they are black metal kids.
BrassFusion Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 There already are. Pseudo-goth is one. Graver is another. And the black metal kids here need to accept that they are black metal kids. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or they'll turn into pumpkins at midnight? What I think *needs* to happen here is you *NEED* to stop being so pretentious and telling everyone else that they're deluded posers, in not so many words. That'd be like me walking into a sports bar and saying, "Hmmph. She thinks she's a redneck. She's not a REAL redneck, she lives in Michigan. He thinks he's a jock. He's not a REAL jock, he's too skinny. He thinks he's an auto mechanic. He's SO not an auto mechanic, or he'd wear his work shirt all the time." You're imposing a label on people and then telling them they don't fit it. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

You're imposing a label on people and then telling them they don't fit it. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But half of them do fit the pseudo-goth, graver, and black metal "label". I haven't imposed those tags on 'em. They've always been there. People still use the word "poser"? Any case, I just see these kids as being misguided. Just accept that you love hanging out at CC and love ebm/industrial/electro. Doesn't make you a goth but there's no shame in that. Just have fun there.
Joey Deadcat Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I'm not goth. I just like vinyl. Can I lick it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can lick it, kick it, stick it, or flick it.
phee Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 If I say.... I, Phee and a Goth.... Does that make me one?
Scary Guy Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 If I say.... I, Phee and a Goth.... Does that make me one? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, but if you say "oh I'm not goth, I'm just different" then that makes you one. Those "I'm not a goth" goths piss me off. YES MR ELDRITCH I'M TALKING TO YOU!
phee Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 No, but if you say "oh I'm not goth, I'm just different" then that makes you one. Those "I'm not a goth" goths piss me off. YES MR ELDRITCH I'M TALKING TO YOU! Ha! :laughing

Doesn't make you a goth but there's no shame in that. Just have fun there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're missing the point. It's over here, I'll show it to you. Again. In a rhetorical manner. How many people do you know who wear nametags that say "Hello, My Name Is Goth?" Out of those people, including the ones that you consider "goth" and the ones you consider "anything else," how many of them are losers SIMPLY because they're so insecure that they evangelize their goth-ness? Example: "I hate conformists because I am goth." Insecure, loser, deluded, doesn't matter. NEXT! Counter Example: "I like hanging out at CC because I appreciate the goth scene." This is a more realistic statement- possibly one that I've heard. One that I might say myself. Who made it your job to rank and file people like that into clean-cut categories of "goths" and "non-goths" when it's clear that you have more respect for "true goths" because Daddy didn't hug you? Do you ever hear people arguing about what makes Blues blues, or Rock rock, or Country country? NO. BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. In closing (because I'm tired, isn't it obvious by the stream-of-consciousness style I've got going on here?), I've *never* been so disgusted by a group of "conformists" as I have been by "nonconformist" goths. It's fucking sick. The majority of "goth"-type people will say "wear what you want, do what makes you happy, be who you want to be," but some will judge you on how "goth" you are behind your back. Try having some respect for people other than yourself.
Joey Deadcat Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Out of those people, including the ones that you consider "goth" and the ones you consider "anything else," how many of them are losers SIMPLY because they're so insecure that they evangelize their goth-ness? Example: "I hate conformists because I am goth." Insecure, loser, deluded, doesn't matter. That's more of a teen angst thing that kids eventually grow out of. Happens in the punk and metal scenes as well. Counter Example: "I like hanging out at CC because I appreciate the goth scene." This is a more realistic statement- possibly one that I've heard. One that I might say myself. Who made it your job to rank and file people like that into clean-cut categories of "goths" and "non-goths" ? There is no goth scene at CC. ... it's clear that you have more respect for "true goths" because Daddy didn't hug you I have more respect for the real folks in any scene. And what's with the ad hominem? Do you ever hear people arguing about what makes Blues blues, or Rock rock, or Country country? You'd be amazed. There are a lot of purists out there. The majority of "goth"-type people will say "wear what you want, do what makes you happy, be who you want to be," Yes, they will (though any scene is like that). It's the people who're just playing dress-up or trying to hard to impress that they'll have a problem with.
Joey Deadcat Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 And Blackmail, it's almost hard for me to keep a straight face whenever I post. If they(except for Doug) only knew, eh?
phee Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Generaly speaking, if I see black lipstick, bauhaus shirts, latex, and hair dye.... I assume that it is a goth scene.... whether it is real or not... so yeah, I would say CC is pretty goth... even if it is "fake"
Anathema Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Good god man! I go out in a white t-shirt and khakis and I still have dumb-asses looking at me asking me if I'm "goth". I think it's the tattoos and hair, shrugging. Labels suck I say.
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Labels are on everything. Including toilet paper and honey comb.
phee Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 allow me to correct this statement as I am sure this is the way you must have ment it There is no goth scene at CC, that I wish to be included in no need to thank me... this one is for free...
Onyx Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Cityclub is not for true goths. If it were they would have this in their bathrooms. :laughing
