fallennon Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Ugh, I've had the migraines from hell for the last week. AND I can't seem to get off the toilet which is highly unusual for me. Nerves suck. Any suggestions?
Lilith Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I try to streach alot and breath deep while doing so, i am using a "yoga" frame of mind with out actually knowing any yoga kinda thing. A hot bath with scents for rexaling added to the water, and some candles. Play music that is relaxing to you and drink some chamamile tea. I will look up some homeopathic stuff and give you links........ http://www.holisticmed.com/stressfree.html#strategies http://www.naturodoc.com/library/herbal/herbs_4_stress.htm http://www.herbal-supplements-guide.com/he...for-stress.html also often just gettin what is stressing you out and having some one else tell you it is all ok or give you ideas to work through it may help so find the person who is honest with you ( in a loving manor) and unload.
Onyx Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I've had chronic migraines since I was six years old. They are not tension headaches at ALL. It's a common misunderstanding. If it's really truly a migraine, it has nothing to do with tension. They run in my family, and my daughters have them too. It's a neurological disorder similar to seizures. You can actually see changes in blood flow in the brain on CT scans during a migraine. They can be disabling, but fortunately there have been a lot of medical advances in treating migraines. If it's a severe one it probably won't respond to anything except prescription meds. Imitrex works great for me. Mine got so bad I had to go on beta blockers to prevent them. If I stay on my daily meds, I rarely get one now, which is wonderful. I used to lose at least several days a month with that horrible pain. If you can't see a doctor soon, sometimes Excedrin would help mine a little, and liquid Nyquil helped the more severe ones, but if you can get to a neurologist or a really good general practitioner who is experienced in treating migraines that would be your best bet. It's hard to find a doctor who is, but worth it when you do. Another thing that helps sometimes, if you are really suffering and can't stand it, get in a really hot bath and soak with something cold on your aching head (I used a wet towel I stuck in the freezer fora few minutes). I hope you find some relief soon.
Lilith Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 MIDOL MAXIUM Strengeth i hate to push it again but it does work for more then PMS, i dont know what it is but when other things dont work it does.... i dont know maybe i am just weird.
Onyx Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Also, I wanted to add, that if you are really truly getting migraines and not tension headaches, simply treating the pain and not taking medication to prevent the migraine attack may cause problems in the long run. There is some evidence that allowing severe migraines to go untreated and not being on preventative medications can leave you prone to stroke in later life and can cause subtle damage to nerve pathways over time. (Not to mention the huge cost in quality of life when you end up never knowing when you'll be disabled with the pain). It does sound to me like you are having migraines, but any pain that goes on for that length of time should be checked out.
Lilith Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 i agree with onyx better safe then sorry in the meantime i hope our ideas help you gain relief from the pain
Nienna Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 I get migrane quality tension headaches. My neck muscles go solid and I see lights and everything. Nothing really helps that I've found. Excederin Migraine will sometimes help if I take 4 or more pills..... I sometimes have gotten relief from muscle relaxers as well. Good luck with this!
fallennon Posted February 11, 2005 Author Posted February 11, 2005 The strange thing is that I do get chronic migraines, but this is a tension headache I'm sure of it. It just feels like a fucking migraine. Maybe the tension in my shoulders is bringing on the migraine. I hate carrying all my stress in my shoulders. I have another headache this morning.
Nienna Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 I carry my stress in my sholders and neck. It can make for some pretty wicked headaches.... *hugs*
JaneDead Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 i'm there with you on all of it ^ the only 'over the counter' stuff that i found ever helped at all was the excedrin migraine- tho it rarely actually takes my headache away. but it works better than anything else ever has. i have taken a few different scripts but none of those worked. i hope you find something that helps. i have a homedics massager and i use that on my neck and shoulders and upper back and then either use heat or ice (usually ice to numb it) or a tennis ball and lay it on the area that really hurts and push on it. massage and chiropractic really help my headaches too. i have not had a real massage in over a year though. but if you can get one do it!

It's hard to rub your own neck... You'd think they'd figure out a way to treat this....
fallennon Posted February 16, 2005 Author Posted February 16, 2005 So I tried Excedrin Tension Headache tonight...didn't cure it, but made it a little better...
JaneDead Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 i never tried the tension one. i always get the migraine one. i think they each have one different ingredient than the other. it could be more but all i recall seeing on the box was one that was different. and probably different dosages of the other stuff.
fallennon Posted February 16, 2005 Author Posted February 16, 2005 It doesn't help with my stomach though lol
JaneDead Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 i have had THE worst stomach issues lately. acid reflux - and it is with everything and anything i eat. i hate it. nothing helps it either. my headaches have been worse lately too. and my excedrin doesnt even touch it. oh well i could always sell my kids and get rid of part of the problem i suppose....
Troy Spiral (13) Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 I have a "migrane" pretty much 16 hours a day, it just fluxuates from bad to terrible to horrific depending on the situation. The only "headache free" time i have is occasinally , i wake up , and for the first 20 minutes or so im fairly head-pain free and it slowly builds over time. I've spent the last 2 1/2 years trying various ways to deal with them along with various anxiety-like problems stemming from my car accident. (PTSD/Anxiety/Headahces/Nausia/Muscle Tension/The Kitchen Sink). No cafeene, try to stay calm, massages
fallennon Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 Now if only I could find someone to rub me down lol
JaneDead Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 i had a good massage therapist but she stopped working on me for some reason over a year ago. that was the last time i had one. :( massages are SO expensive. she was so cheap i was able to go to her severeal times a month. then she started to come to ME. that was awesome. now, nothing. let me tell you- i was doing soooo much better when i was getting them (with the headaches, fibro, sinus issues, a lot of stuff). i know there is no way i'd ever find someone as cheap as her. i have thought about contacting a school and having a student work on me. might not be AS good but it would be nice anyways.
fallennon Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 One of the girls at work used to go to school for it. She rubbed the headache right out of my head with a 15 relaxation message. It was amazing. The second she touched me she was shocked. She said that she hadn't felt that many knots in somenone's neck, shoulders and back in a really long time. They are still there, but it's a start.
