EvilDivaEva Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I have been a long time user of Kazaa Lite K++ but I had a virus in my computer so I had the pleasure of reformatting my system. My Kazza will no longer work and I did just read an article on CNN about them being involved in a lawsuit over copy right laws so perhaps that is why it will no longer work. Either that or the disc I used to install my Kazaa Lite K++ was damaged. Anyway, before I go looking for another file sharing site I was wondering how many of you use file sharing programs and which one you believe works best. - Eva
Dubh Aingeal Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 This is probably why your Kazaa no longer works: "BBC has the following breaking story: File-sharing site Kazaa will become a legal music download service following a series of high-profile legal battles. The peer-to-peer network has also agreed to pay $100m (£53m) in damages to the record industry. The announcement follows the release of a music industry report that says more than 20 billion music tracks have been downloaded illegally in the last year."
n0Mad Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 So, it looks like Kazaa is following the Napster path. I was warned against Kazaa long ago because it comes embedded with Gator/GAIN adware which is virtually impossible to remove from your system. I currently use Limewire and eMule. Mostly eMule.
Scary Guy Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 soulseek limewire edonkey (ed2k) bittorent IRC FTP
Msterbeau Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Learn about Bit Torrent... which is another avenue to file sharing.

Msterbeau Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Soulseek for five years now. best one out there with not one issue to date with bunk files or viruses. Is it basically a music sharing thing?
HipsterDufus Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Is it basically a music sharing thing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've really only seen it ever used for music sharing, but I think video/image on are there as well.
MarsDustDoug Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I've really only seen it ever used for music sharing, but I think video/image on are there as well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yeah I have gotten full prog, videos, pics, etc. But it mainly is used for musc. Whatever is in the folders you share can be downloaded.
Draco1958 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I use Kazaa lite. Haven't had any problem with unwanted software installing like Gain and Gator. I have had one version no longer want to load so I switched to another and no problem. I can't get Limewire to run, it will install but won't run.
Anathema Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Learn about Bit Torrent... which is another avenue to file sharing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> torrent is good. that's what we use along with soulseek. what i like about torrents is you can get whole discographies as well as movies and they have comments about them all so you kind of know if you are getting quality. it also puts everything into it's own file folders which are all labeled and whatnot. saves work you'd have to do. the only problem we have with it is it tends to bog down and we have to close it out then reopen and it will d/l at a better speed when that happens.
Dubh Aingeal Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Some of the world's biggest record labels sued the makers of the file-sharing program LimeWire on Friday, saying the software allows users to download music without paying for it. " The case is the first piracy lawsuit brought against a distributor of file-sharing software since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last year that technology companies could be sued for copyright infringement on the grounds that they encouraged customers to steal music and movies over the Internet. In the complaint, the record companies contend LimeWire's operators are "actively facilitating, encouraging and enticing" computer users to steal music by failing to block access to copyright works and building a business model that allows them to profit directly from piracy. "
Rayne Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I can't get Limewire to run, it will install but won't run. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is your internst access through a router? I know mine I have to allow the access through the router for it to work, or it won't.

First Napster, then Audiogalaxy ... now Limewire. Seems like everyone I choose gets shut down.
Msterbeau Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Grr. First Napster, then Audiogalaxy ... now Limewire. Seems like everyone I choose gets shut down. Use BitTorrent. There's really nothing much to shut down.
Scary Guy Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Use BitTorrent. There's really nothing much to shut down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Except websites that is... www.thepiratebay.org is still up for the moment though. Suprnova was great Audiogalaxy now that I think about it was very much like bittorent all except for the distributed delivery system. It had a great web search feature. Aimster was great before it sucked. Good times
