Guest Game of Chance Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Too long, I think. Its time for me to pick up a copy. Long live Hagbard Celine!
Anathema Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Too long, I think. Its time for me to pick up a copy. i agree. i am thinking the same thing now actually.
HipsterDufus Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Funny you mention it; I just got it out of the library after you referenced the RA Wilson website in one of your threads. Haven't started reading it yet though....
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Fuck yeah, dude. Man, is that ever a classic. You read Cosmic Trigger or Prometheus Rising?
HipsterDufus Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Fuck yeah, dude. Man, is that ever a classic. You read Cosmic Trigger or Prometheus Rising? I have Prometheus Rising on hold at the library. Still waiting for someone to turn it in, as there's only one copy in all of Kent County. I really liked his essay on model agnosticism. That's what made me want to read some of his books. Plus he's got a great sense of humor, which is right up my alley.
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I picked my copy up at John King Books downtown. $4 I think... I've read a shit-ton from that guy. Great, great writer.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 The books you can get via the amazon used bookstores are legion. I slowly build up a list of stuff and then buy it all at once to marginalize the shipping cost. I used to be an avid library user... just my reading slowed down to the point were i read maybe 1 - 2 books a month max so i can afford to buy them and just have them around. I sort of force-fed myself the Eye In the Pyramid and Golden Apple , never finished Leviathan but had planned to. I finally broke down and started reading this because of it often being mentioned in the philosophy/relgious sphere of stuff i read and figured i should break down and do it. But at that time (talking like 9? years ago) i was also force-feeding myself shakespeare and i think it came down to "Macbeth... or Leviathan..." and strangely enough Macbeth won. I since lost my copy and have now converted to reading almost totally non-fiction so picking this one back up might be difficult as i have a HUGE pile of to-be-read stuff that this would go on the bottom of. For anyone just randomly reading this, i'd suggest you probably wont "get" this book or enjoy it all that much if your not at least somewhat familiar with A. Crowley/occultism/60s era pschyodilia/meaning of life questions/conspiracy theory. There are also a ton of classic literary references which make zero sense if your not fairly well grounded in classic lit. I'd say read this if for nothing else its "cult" status if your in such spheres of influence. You might want to just read Masks Of The Illuminati which was very good and a bit easier on the average reader. Especially if your not quite believer in the cult of wilson or are like me a wilson agnostic.
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I hear ya. It should be noted, however, that Wilson describes himself as an agnostic/skeptic. He urges you to try the experiments (discussed in Cosmic Trigger and Prometheus Rising) for yourself.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Oh im with that. I got the impression, as the ANCIENT memory serves that Illuminati basicly every 30 pages had some new worldview / concept / conspiracy / spirtually premise that he spent the whole time building up, only to trash it and start a new one later. One ths surface level its more of a slaughterhouse five surrealist type thing, but i think the 'point' of it was 'question your assumptions' (to over simplify) which i like a lot.
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 'question your assumptions' In-fucking-deed.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 In-fucking-deed. Hey i used to pride myself on 2 or 3 word summaries of complicated subjects. Used to piss people off left and right!! Now i manage to piss them off but it takes 10 pages of crap for me to get to the point.
bav Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Fuck yeah, dude. Man, is that ever a classic. You read Cosmic Trigger or Prometheus Rising? While I was reading Prometheus Rising, I did the quarter experiment for about 6 months. Made a nice haul off of it =)
bav Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I picked my copy up at John King Books downtown. $4 I think... I've read a shit-ton from that guy. Great, great writer. Really great guy to talk to as well. I met him at DragonCon in Atlanta several years ago. Went to a panel on Futurism that he sat on...RAW was really funny and had some great ideas. After the panel, went out to the courtyard to smoke, and someone tapped me on the back of my leg. Turned around to see RAW sitting in a wheel chair (he was having difficulties walking at that point in time) who wanted to bum a smoke off of me. Ended up spending about 20 minutes talking with him about literature, Playboy, and drug laws before his handlers came to take him off to a different panel.

Think you'd get a kick out of it.

In fact, I think we were talking abot RAW within 10 minutes of meeting each other. That is awesome.

Oops....wasn't that also the time I got banned at the necto for playing RevCo? Memory ain't so good these days, especially if there was booze involved

Memory ain't so good these days, especially if there was booze involved Either that or right after we met and were singing "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" with the store clerk outside of the Elbow Room.
SouthernFriedGhoul Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 It's nice to see this topic here. Good job, Game of Chance. Robert Anton Wilson helped me get through high school. I have to say that I prefer the "Cosmic Trigger" trilogy personally though.
Guest Game of Chance Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Right on...Ever read Prometheus Rising?
SouthernFriedGhoul Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 No, but I did read "Ishtar Rising." I was interesting, but not one of my favorites. Honestly, I haven't read any RAW in several years. Now I have to dig through my stack of paperbacks and find something by him to browse tonight.

Prometheus is my very, very favorite. Do yourself a favor and get a copy...I'm sure you can find it for under $6 on amazon or half.com
