Well, now he can't dangle his babies near the crocs anymore.

Posted

Ya wasn't exactly one of his smarter moments, but the man had done alot despite that one incident

Posted

I think that it would be apropo to dangle his dead ass in front of some crocs.

CRIKEY that guy is missing a few screws in his head. I like when a rattlesnake almost bit him in the balls.

Jesus christ... the way you guys are hating on him almost seems like it was YOUR kids he had near a crocodile. Have some respect.

Basically i have much respect for the guy and it is a great lose for conservationism. He did a lot for animals in general and even though you might think he was a bit touched in my opinion he was a great man. I will miss him even though it sounds like no one else will........ :respect:

As a parent, I had no respect for him. As for what you're saying, yes. He deserves it there.

Completely agreed.

I dont think all of the great work that the man did throughtout his life should be forgoten just because of the mistake he made with his baby

Reading all these things make me almost as sad as hearing of his death.

My daughter and I adored him and I don't think many know that after setting aside enough to take care of his house and family, he donated every single penny of his profits to environmental projects and buying up land to create nature preserves. We will literally destroy ourselves if we do not pay attention to the planet. Now there is one less voice and one less force trying to save it.

There are a lot of celebrities who might give 1% of their dollars to this and that, but he donated every single penny he made after his necessities were taken care of, and he never lived extravagantly at all. He lived his life in 100% dedication to what he believed in and put his money where his mouth was. He was real.

I was shocked too when I heard about the croc incident, however I really think most of it was overblown hype. His wife has always been a protective and loving mom, however when she commented about the incident she stated her child was in no more danger than a child being taught to swim.

Irwin defends croc feeding stunt

January 3, 2004 - 6:30PM

Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin has defended his decision to hold his baby son while feeding a crocodile, saying it was important to teach kids about danger.

Friday's incident at Mr Irwin's Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast made headlines internationally and prompted comparisons with Michael Jackson's notorious dangling of his baby over a balcony.

Mr Irwin also earned a reprimand from Queensland's Department of Family Services.

At a media conference outside the zoo and flanked by his father Bob, wife Terri and daughter Bindi, Mr Irwin claimed he was hurt by the allegations of child neglect.

"I am hurt. I am as hurt as I get," he told reporters. "But this must be happening for a reason. And I sincerely believe that Bindi is the most well-rounded kid her age, and by crikey, is the most croc savvy kid her age in the world.

"If I had the time again maybe I would do it differently. "But it's all about perceived danger ... I was in complete control.

"People say, `well what if you had fallen?' But for that to take place a meteorite would have had to come out of the sky and hit Australia at 6.6 on the Richter scale like in Iran. "Bindi is very croc savvy and we live in crocodile territory so they (the children) have to be croc savvy."

Scores of Queenslanders rang the Families Department crisis care hotline on Friday night after the footage appeared on the nightly news. But police and the state government said no charges would be laid.

"Steve is a great Queenslander and ambassador for our state. However, we did have concerns with the footage from last night," acting Premier Terry Mackenroth said. "The manager of Crisis Care and the Department of Family Services spoke with Steve last night and told him that we had several complaints and staff from the Department of Family Services had concerns with the footage. "They asked him not to repeat the performance and while he denied he had endangered his child, he reassured us he would not do it again."

Excellent post Onyx....couldn't of said it better myself. The man had one bad case of judgement, and even now after he is dead i still see them having pics of him and his baby on tv after the fact. The man has done more for causes then most celebraties, and Like BrassFusion said have some respect for what he has done.

we all knew he was going to die by some "beaute" of an animal. it was all a matter of time.

I aggree it was only a matter of time, but still a tragedy none the less....ppl of austrailia may not like him, but the land that saved for the animals will be there forever.

i loved him! he was an amazing person. I even watched his movie that everyone hated. I feel so bad for his wife and his kids.

Posted

It was very sad that he lost his life. I just hope that his wife and kids will be okay.

i liked his attitude in the face of great danger, allways calm an jolly totaly in control. he could be fighting a dragon and it would sound like he was teaching a kid to fish. i actually stoped for a few minutes in shock an that news shook me pretty hard. that was one of my heros. there were never be another croc hunter. i don't even think the animal planet network would exist today without him. i never wrestled aligators or crocs. I've cared for and tended to many kinds of reptile and anphibian life over the years even some insects and arachnids. I know things about animals you'll never read in a book, undocumented behaviors and unknown dangers. it would have been a dream come true to have a conversation with steve irwin. i almost wrote him a letter to see if he would help me to relocate a healthy guiness book size captive raised python back to austrailia or where ever as it is a native species of that continent. i never got around to it...........................

i here the manta rays of that area are particularly more cunning and aggresive. most sting rays are like happy pupies they have limited copasity to learn, if in captivity they can learn to respond to an auditory command like a dogs name. but the manta ray is a much larger and more highly evolved species. they both can get very large. some seen in the golf of mexico are over 1800 pounds with a wing span of 22 feet (sting ray). the barb on the tail is placed half way down the tail and pointed up toword the base of the tail protruding at a 35 degree angle. this allows the animal a to utilize this weapon as it glides around in a circle making full use of a natural kenetic chain for maximun force. it is also toxic producing a paralyzing nero toxin attacking the nervous system to prevent muscles from moving by loking out all electrochemical impulse from the brain by melting the nerve endings (the heart is a muscle). also as part of the shark family

i suspect stingrays have the ability(like most sharks) to feel the electro magnetic feilds in the water. a sense of perception not easy for us to understand. so the ray might have been able to feel that heart loudly beating in that chest for some time before he approached it. maybee it allways goes for the heart in that area of the world.

i'm still at a loss. the thing with the babby is his business who tells you how to raise your kid you know. his dad probably brought him up the same way before that. without the babby who will be the next croc hunter?

if he says there is no danger i would listen as i think he would be qualified to know more then us average people.

it looked bad though huh.

it is disrespectfull to bash him on the rip thread i know your not at a podium at a funeral but come on now.

would he say those things about you? sorry im just a little shook over the whole thing.

maybee i should wright that letter to his wife and offer my condolences, have the whole family sign it like a birthday card. this must have been what it was like at the untimley demise of bruce lee in the 70's
