Paper Hearts Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I agree with you that Orgy is slop and New Order was/is a great. I just didn't want to appear to always agree with you, so I didn't say anything. My only issue with New Order is that when I listen to them, I can't help thinking about Ian Curtis...and how he's not there...and I wonder where he is at...and what he's thinking about...and whether he's thinking about me. But, alas, once again I've run out of wine...
BrassFusion Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Good idea. Reposted from an offtopic: You know, I sincerely hope that this isn't true... Soundtracks are quite the potluck of music buying. Some turn into classic albums, like the '70s fave "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack. Some break new artists, like Elton John's work for the film "Friends" and Lisa Loeb's "Stay" on the "Reality Bites" soundtrack. Some aren't quite as memorable, or we wish we could forget about them -- like Whitney Houston's "Bodyguard" soundtrack, the highest-selling CD of all-time. But if you want to measure quality by popularity, guess who's WAY WAY WAY more popular than New Order. That's right, gang... Britney. Fucking. Spears. Just because it sold doesn't mean it isn't shit. And if you want to hash into it, give me some reasons WHY it's any good. I can give you reasons why it sucks. And not just subjective ones like "it's boring" or "it's cheesy," regardless of how true those statements are.
LuluVox Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 Paul, it's perfectly fine to always agree with me, you know. And yes, I often wonder what everyone else wonders about Joy Division: would they have eventually started sounding like New Order at some point, forcing Ian Curtis to actually hang Bernard Sumner whilst listening to The Idiot by Iggy Pop and watching some Werner Herzog film? As for you, Brass, maybe I'll be in a mood to opinion-wrestle with you tomorrow after some sleep, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Liberal Larry Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 New Order are one of the most influential bands of todays alternative rock scene. Blue Monday was covered by tons of bands, same with Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith. The singer can't sing very well though, at least on the early records. Orgy is utter crap.
Paper Hearts Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 L Vox, While I cannot by nature sanction violence against Bernard Sumner (and not because I'm a pacifist, because I'm not a pacifist)...I might trade...the life of River Phoenix for the life of Will Smith. In fact, I'm sure I would. There, I said it.
Liberal Larry Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 anyone have a copy of Radiohead covering New Order's procession song?
Paper Hearts Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 anyone have a copy of Radiohead covering New Order's procession song? No, I don't. -But speaking of Radiohead has anyone Heard Thom Yorke's solo album? I think it's pretty good.
Paper Hearts Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Well, I'll give you a link then: http://www.theeraser.net/Stage2UK/

That's because for the first record and a half, the singer was trying to sound like the old Joy Division singer, probably because initially they were recording leftover Joy Division songs, and Sumner thought imitating Ian Curtis was the way it had to be. Then he realized, "Oh, wait, I have my own voice, I can use that!"

Well then you are nothing like me, because I was listening to it in July when it came out. That makes you unhip. Plus I like New Order and not Orgy and CCR. I'm more Formula 1, not Nascar.

Head Wreck Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 i saw a promo billboard of yorke's album in cardiff and it looked thevy cthulhuic to me with tenticles coming from skyscrapers in a sea of swirls
Paper Hearts Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 i saw a promo billboard of yorke's album in cardiff and it looked thevy cthulhuic to me with tenticles coming from skyscrapers in a sea of swirls See? This is where the principality of Wales is hep and the United States has homework. No matter how average Thom Yorke's solo album may be to some people, we don't have billboards for things like that; we still have billboards for Garth Brooks. God save the Queen.
Head Wreck Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 this bilboard was a good 50 paces long with a man at the end in a clearing of the p[icture (all black and white duotone) with his hand outstreched to say NO pushing back the mess

And later, I may switch to gin and have leek soup and Welsh rarebit. God obviously hates me. You know what I'm sick of most of all in this country? And I'm not being facetious--I really hate living in a country with no armed conflict like that in Ulster. I find the whole idea romantic. To hell with this goody-two-shoes, place. Give me Thom Yorke on billboards in a capital city.
Head Wreck Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 you think the armed conflict in ulster was something good?!?!!! you have a warped sense of whats good. my cousins scars from being stabbed in the kidneys while fetching a drink because "he wasnt irish so must have been a soldier"
Paper Hearts Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 And what is this rubbery Wisconsin orangyness that we try to pass off as Leicester cheese? Have you tried it?

Not that I would necessarily participate. It's just more romantic. I mean come on; this is boring.
