I agree with you that Orgy is slop and New Order was/is a great. I just didn't want to appear to always agree with you, so I didn't say anything. My only issue with New Order is that when I listen to them, I can't help thinking about Ian Curtis...and how he's not there...and I wonder where he is at...and what he's thinking about...and whether he's thinking about me.

You know, I sincerely hope that this isn't true...

Soundtracks are quite the potluck of music buying. Some turn into classic albums, like the '70s fave "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack. Some break new artists, like Elton John's work for the film "Friends" and Lisa Loeb's "Stay" on the "Reality Bites" soundtrack. Some aren't quite as memorable, or we wish we could forget about them -- like Whitney Houston's "Bodyguard" soundtrack, the highest-selling CD of all-time.

But if you want to measure quality by popularity, guess who's WAY WAY WAY more popular than New Order.

That's right, gang... Britney. Fucking. Spears.

Just because it sold doesn't mean it isn't shit. And if you want to hash into it, give me some reasons WHY it's any good. I can give you reasons why it sucks. And not just subjective ones like "it's boring" or "it's cheesy," regardless of how true those statements are.

And yes, I often wonder what everyone else wonders about Joy Division: would they have eventually started sounding like New Order at some point, forcing Ian Curtis to actually hang Bernard Sumner whilst listening to The Idiot by Iggy Pop and watching some Werner Herzog film?

New Order are one of the most influential bands of todays alternative rock scene. Blue Monday was covered by tons of bands, same with Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith. The singer can't sing very well though, at least on the early records. Orgy is utter crap.

i love radiohead. i've heard mixed reviews of the solo album but haven't had the occassion to listen to it myself.

That's because for the first record and a half, the singer was trying to sound like the old Joy Division singer, probably because initially they were recording leftover Joy Division songs, and Sumner thought imitating Ian Curtis was the way it had to be. Then he realized, "Oh, wait, I have my own voice, I can use that!"
