Dubh Aingeal Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Anyone been under the knife before? Just curious what to expect.
HipsterDufus Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Anyone been under the knife before? Just curious what to expect. I don't know if you're have general anesthetic or not, but that was the worst part of my wrist surgery. Coming out of it was totally bewildering for the next 24 hours and I vomited about 15 minutes after regaining consciousness. Some people do handle it better, but I HATED it. Either way, good luck.
Msterbeau Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Hernia surgery earlier this year. Going in.. the last thing you're doing is counting 100. It's kinda disorienting coming out. not too bad. Depending where they cut and how many meds they give ya... you might be in some pain. Or a LOT of pain. Prepare for a few weeks of fairly serious discomfort and immobility if it's abdominal. Then a full year till it's really properly healed.
Fierce Critter Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Tonsils at age 7. Besides that, not a thing. Unless you count wisdom teeth extraction, for which I was totally anesthetized, and scalpels were used. Jon had a vasectomy about 6 years ago. Best wishes.
ManicQueen Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I've had many many surgeries. I personally am a complete wreck before going into the OR so they dope me up pretty good. When they bring you into the OR, you'll be knocked out within minutes then you wake up. I've never had any problems with the anesthesia, just takes takes a while to fully wake up. Good luck!
Dubh Aingeal Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Having Laparoscopic surgery to remove my gallbladder due to Gallstones. Suppose to be outpatient surgery unless something is in the way (organs, infection of the gallbladder, etc) then I will have open surgery. From what I understand of it they make a few small incisions, put tubes in the incisions and do the work thru those with a 5-10 day full recovery time frame. Hoping for once I fall into the normality of things. Cause hospital food just sucks as eatable food.
ManicQueen Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I had that same surgery a few years ago, emergency surgery but everything went well and I was up and moving around the same day. She said the surgery was easy, she just couldn't work out for a while afterwards. But she was all constipated afterwards (not sure if it was from the anasthesia) so she just ate lots of fruit after she came home.
Scary Guy Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I had eye surgery. The weird part was the adjustable stitch they used to bring it back into alignment with.
Fierce Critter Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 My mother had her gallbladder out probably well over a decade ago, more than likely close to 2. That was probably before this current technique, and she came through fine and has been much better since. Be well.
Homicidalheathen Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I have had many surgeries. It aint bad. You wake up and its over. The worst thing is having a reaction to your anesthesia.......and that is rare so don't sweat it.
Anathema Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 depends on what they are doing to you. i have had 2 major surgeries and they weren't really all that bad. sure they sucked but you get lots of pain meds in the hospital in your iv and lots to take home. i recomend getting staples if possible rather then stitches, especially if you are going be getting alot of them (i think i had 38), it really grosses people out more so then the stitches. i guess the sight of someone being stapled shut is disturbing to alot of people. the worst part of mine was moving for about a week. hell, i refused to even sit up in bed for a few days after my last surgery it really hurt when i did. one of the worst things is that you can't eat for 12/24 hours before and they make you wait for up to a few days after they slice and dice you. sorry, an iv drip does not satisfy my tummy when it is growling because they wouldn't let me eat for 3 1/2 days!
Dubh Aingeal Posted September 29, 2006 Author Posted September 29, 2006 Just an update. The surgery went off without a hitch. I am home now and all doped up on left over drugs from the surgery and what I was prescribed. Hope your having a wonderful time in Detroit Brenda. Wish I could be there.
