I did NOT just spend days and days downloading Sim City 4 and a couple minutes burning it and a couple more minutes installing it to have it not want to read the cd correctly and start the darn application. Did I forget to do something? I used Alcohol 120%.

(P.S., this was just an experiment to see if I could download and run it, I already have a legally purchased registered copy of Sim City 4, I just keep it locked in a crystal safe under spotlit display in a vault in my weather-controlled cellar because I have THAT much respect for the software industry. Nothing illegal here.)

Harrrrrrvarrrrrrrrrrd. And your advice really means nothing to me at this point.

I'll use small words

load it in Deamon Tools to test the iso first.

they weren't isos, smartypants. they were cues.

Posted

Wait... all you downloaded were .cue files? Did you get the .bin files as well?

yeah, otherwise the game wouldn't have installed really well... at least from my limited knowledge. and i still have all the files.

Alcohol 120% does the same thing as Daemon tools. Actually, it does a few more tricks too.

Posted

I've found that Daemon tools has a couple of "tricks" up it's sleeves that allow it to "not be seen" by software that is looking for mounters like DT and A120.

I've played Oblivion this way (using Daemon). What a great game. Too bad my video card sucks. Once Christmas rolls around, I'll probably buy the real game as well as a new video card and some RAM.

Let me know what you need. I work at a computer shop and might be able to hook you up on price.

Oooooooh, thanks for the "in." It'll probably be about 3 months, but I should be able to afford some sweet stuff by then.

I actually play Sims 2 on a virtual drive. I got that all working (somehow) with Daemon.

Then a friend "optimized" my computer and part of that involved removing Daemon. XD Sims 2 still works, though.

And I really doubt that for how old SC4 is, it would have protections that alcohol 120% couldn't bypass.

Anyway. I'm bored, you guys are boring... I wanna play sim city 4. =)

I have bins and cues and a 30-day trial of Alcohol 120%. I also have two brand new coasters with pretty writing on them. Anyone wanna take me under his or her wing? I make excellent cornbread.

What is this "30-day trial" you speak of?

i downloaded it from the official website. it's fully functional.

Bleh. I'm trying to just run it using a virtual drive but it's getting PO'd cuz there's no disc in drive D:. I really really forgot how i did this back in the day.

Fuxit. Imma play Sim City 2000. SC4 can't be THAT much better.

Man. I forgot how boring that game is. Oh well, gotta get to rehearsal soonish anyway.

I wish my copy of SC4 didn't get stolen while I was in Wyoming.. But then again, when about 600 bucks worth of my shit got stolen, I seem to find myself wishing lots of things were still around.. Like my ps2, various PC parts, my minifridge... Fuckin thieves. I'll kill someone.

Well... you can't download a minifridge, but you CAN download SC4. Just a toss up as to whether you can make it work.

Not that i would ever pirate software... never ever.

But i actually downloaded Sim City 4, with (what i would actually call .isos even though they arent) I think i have the exact same thing you do. Works pretty good. (except for the random errors ... just like every sim city i've ever played)

Im not sure what you did wrong , sounds like you did the same thing i did. Alcholo 120 worked fine for me.

Maybe you got some file corruption or something.

I played it for about a week. Really wasnt that impressed , just to similar to the previous games and somehow feels sort of "remote". I didnt really care what happend to the towns all that much as i did in prevous versions of the game.

Actually sometimes its such a headache and takes so much time... 40 bucks to just go by the thing often is less of a pain. (and feels better heh)

I actually prefer Rollercoaster Tycoon. I like watching all the people line up for the rides and then go buy food / drinks. And sometimes if you make the ride too scary and put the food to close to the rollercoasters they get off the ride and barf. If there are no trash cans or cleanup sims around it gets messy fast.

And the new Sid Meyer Railroad "Tycoon" type game that is on its way looks amazing.

Note: I'd call that there a respectful topic "shift" rather than a "threadjack" especially since i didn directly address the topic post as well. =P

I've played most of the Sim City series, but fell into the same pitfall of "not caring" about the city 30 minutes into the game. I've also played the Rollercoaster Tycoon series. I definately give that series some massive props on keeping my OCD butt in the seat. As for now, I'll stick to RTS and FPS games.

All hail starcraft baby

Sheep

Well AOM was decent, as well as AOE3, but gotta go with the classics

Dude hell yes I LOVE rollercoaster tycoon, jack all you want about that.

the coolest thing is that they're all guys... riding the rides together, eating cotton candy, even taking romantic swan peddle boat rides, for couples only.

That's why I named the first steel coaster I made the Gay Pride Parade. They all gushed about it and bought on-ride pictures. Little queers =D

Warcraft was ok, but I would rather play starcraft, and I am suprised they never made a sequal of that btw.....The Starcraft Ghost game got cancelled or postponed again :(

Posted

Yup it's off blizzard's website, so it looks like no ghost :(

Posted

They made a sequal to StarCraft called Brood Wars. Ghost was supposed to be a FPS adaptation of it. I could of swore that they actually did release it.

Broodwars wasn't a sequal my friend, it was an expansion :p

Blizzard kept postponing it till they scrapped it.
