phee Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 So, Bush cuts income tax and everyone on the left went nuts about it.... How are they affecting you?USA Today article about the Tax Cuts It sux... because of lower taxing in the area, the "Headstart" program in Garden City was shut down, and a whole bunch of kids with special needs are now royaly fracked.
Rayne Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 It sux... because of lower taxing in the area, the "Headstart" program in Garden City was shut down, and a whole bunch of kids with special needs are now royaly fracked. My four year old has mild Autism. A high functioning form called Asperger's Syndrome (Brenda knows about it) ... Head Start was the only people who would take him so young. My ex doesn't have a car and the now nearest HS program is in Dearborn (literaly almost a 45 minute drive from where he lives in GC). I have custody of my oldest daughter who goes to school just outside of Saline, in the Milan school district area. I can't drive down and drive him or pick him up. He hasn't been in a program at all this year.
Paper Hearts Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I kind of fucked up the whole Thatcherism/Reaganomics thing and spent my tax cuts in Canada on foriegn goods. I guess there are some better cared for Canadian people somewhere. It was a hell of a night though.
HipsterDufus Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Honestly, all of these tax cuts came as I started to work full time (not a student), so I never lived with any other tax system. <shrug> What I'd really like to see is businesses start to give better raises than what my friends and I get (we all max out at 3% per year at best). With the crappy raises that most Americans are getting these days, we can't really afford to pay much more in taxes, leaving a lot of social services sorely lacking.

Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 Did you read that link? The Government is getting more actual money under the new system than the old and the greater amount of taxes paid is being paid by rich people.

I did read the link... but between reading the link and seeing first hand what has actually happened, I will believe what I see more than what I read.

Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 That I can agree with... to some extent. You also have to figure in how much in releif aid that is being paid out now. 9/11, Katrina, the hurricanes in Florida the year before.... the Tsunami... Katrina alone amounts to over $160 BILLION. $950 Million went to Tsunani relief.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 Phee.. what are you seeing exactly? Poor people (under $20k income) paying taxes? Middle class ($21k to $150k) paying more?
phee Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Phee.. what are you seeing exactly? Poor people (under $20k income) paying taxes? Middle class ($21k to $150k) paying more? From what I can see.... The tax cuts went through, the place closed due to lack of tax money... regaurdless of which tax bracket the funding came from. Since Rayne was a member of "Headstart" you may have to ask her for more details... Cutting Income Taxes = Loss of Tax Funded Programs
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 The money is there just not the allocation it deserves. Write a letter to your congress person. We all should. HS needs another $127million a year in funding. At least that the dollar amount on the flyer from headstart urging me to write a letter to my congress person. This is a budget issue, not a tax issue.

Possibly... but in answer to your original question I guess I would say no change for me personally with the exception of the change for the worse we discussed... even though that could possibly be budgeting.
Homicidalheathen Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Cuts? Are there tax cuts? Because no, we are getting litterally socked in the teeth and then some. Maybe the bracket....the fact that we pay out now as we have our own buisness...you see it more......it isn't done for you and all......
Troy Spiral (13) Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 It would be very difficult to judge the impact of tax cuts properly just relying on my own personal experience. Usually the only time people "notice" tax cuts is when some government program they thought was good goes away. I got an assoicates degree under a program that no longer exists, and it was due to income tax cuts. Does that mean they are bad? No not necessarily. I legitimately had to declare bankruptsy and really had no other option, under the new rules , it wouldn't be possible. (a side effect of the tax cuts) I'd basically either have to go live in a card board box, or, suck down MORE government money from different programs to pay for the bills that i couldn't pay normally. This doesn't mean that the cuts were bad, it just means that my anecdotal evidence , if viewed a bit more close mindedly , would make the cuts "bad". There is a more wide-spread benefit to people having more money to spend that isn't always directly measurable. I think taxes need to exist for several reasons. But your average joe i'd assume is always going to applaud getting more money in his check. He is also going to bitch about the government not helping him when he needs help but cant get it because the government program doesn't exist or is not funded. Catch 22.

HipsterDufus Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 As usual, Troy got it right. For me personally, I don't really know a difference. It's up to history to tell whether or not it was a good idea, I suppose. I also agree with Gaf, in that I have more issues with how the government budgets the money we give them as opposed to the ways that they get it. Good posts all around everyone. Pat yourselves on the back.
