Paper Hearts Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 Well, since Troy is the site ruler, I guess we be smackin him huh?Wheres Troy, TROY!! Get over here for your lynchins boy! Go fetch me a switch. :D I think it would be kind of hard to beat me with Troy. Kelly, you are detained; you shouldn't be talking. And I don't hit detainees because it's against the Geneva Convention. You will be hooded and photographed atop a pyramid of other people, however.

Dubh Aingeal Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Just heard a interesting cover. East of Eden doing Her Strut by Bob Seger.
LuluVox Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 To Wild Homes - Gang Of Four covered by. The New Pornographers.-CatsEye I don't think that's a cover, actually. At least I'm pretty sure Gang of Four never recorded it. I have far too many favorite covers to think of now, but the one that springs to mind as a definite stand-out is "If It Be Your Will," originally a Leonard Cohen song, done by Antony. It's beautiful. *puts it on now* My least favorites include that annoying new cover of the Genesis song "Land of Confusion" by some sucky band...Disturbed, I think, they all sound the same to me. And that fucking Concrete Blonde version of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows." In both songs, the inflections the singers put on the words in the "new" versions make me sick. I seriously flip off the radio when that CB cover comes on. As in, give it the finger. EDIT: Oh, another favorite would be Chiasm's cover of "Milkshake."

CatsEyeOfTheWiccan Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 So far, I feel that everyone has passed, except Kelly. Kelly has to stay after and sit in detention. It seems like everyone hates Depeche Mode covers save one malcontent, but that's all right because I like the Johnny Cash, Personal Jesus, cover. New Order covers are really evil, as well. Lay off Joy Division, too--I've heard a Cure cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart and basically, I'm not mad at Robert Smith as long as I don't have to listen to that version, ever. But I think we all like it when someone covers a hip hop song. And Phee picked my favorite B-52s song, but I'm still going to seem offended. Fuck the man, down with authority. I would also like to challenge everyone to find Iggy Pop's version of Sea of Love because it is indeed the best cover ever. And If you ever get married, you will need it for your reception. I am saving that record, just in case. I do like Iggy Pops - Sea Love off his New Vaules album -CatsEye
Paper Hearts Posted October 13, 2006 Author Posted October 13, 2006 I do like Iggy Pops - Sea Love off his New Vaules album-CatsEye I believe you are thinking of "The Endless Sea". He did a cover of "Sea of Love", two years later, on the "Party" album, which I also believe is in my tops for jacket art. (I couldn't find an image of the reverse of the album jacket, but it's the same layout only he's tightening on a tie and sort of gazing as if at his reflection in a mirror.)
LuluVox Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 [Ghostrider (Sisters of Mercy) - Rollins Band That was Suicide's song first! I like the Rollins Band version so much more, though. Former Detroit band the Gories also did a version, but I have yet to hear that one. I'm listening to a sorta indie rock kids' album, and Sufjan Stevens is doing a nice rendition of the traditional song "The Friendly Beasts."
