BrassFusion Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ok, so I just had some orange spice herbal tea with a lot of lemon and honey. My throat feels a LOT better... I kinda wasn't expecting it to have an effect like this. What home remedies do any of you swear by? Well, you don't have to literally swear, I mean, if you don't want to.
Dubh Aingeal Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 One of my fav drinks when I am sick (sore throat, cold, etc) is warm Vernors with a cinnamon stick in it. Its something both my mom and grandma gave me when I was young.
Steven Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 two things: 1) hot water, ALOT of fresh lemon juice squeeezed in, with honey. 2) same thign - only make it a hot toddy by adding a shot of whiskey - taken before beddy bye time 3) (i know I said two) good old hot water and salt gargle - ESPECIALLY for those of you who sing
ManicQueen Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I like drinking hot Canada Dry when my throat is sore. Hot anything makes it feel better for a little while. I'm also big on cinnamon spice tea.
kellygrrrrrl Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Mom always gave me Vernors (cold) when a sicky stomach was present. When water wouldn't even stay down, Vernors did! I swear by the Whiskey, Lemon & Honey....just warmed...not hot. OR SCOTCH! either way. But, in most cases, I go hard core....right to the Nyquil. I ain't playing when it comes to my sleep!!
BrassFusion Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 I took a couple nyquil last night... they didn't really *do much* for me. I kept waking up and glaring at the pillow and tossing my hair around to get it out of the way and thinking how sweaty and greasy it was and getting angry about it. I'm a weird freaking sleeper, I think.
Onyx Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Check the ingredients -- Nyquil pills aren't the same formula as the liquid. The liquid works much better for me and lets me sleep (but tastes horrible). For sore throats I like ginger tea. Powdered works ok but fresh is even better. For colds and flu and just generally building up the immune system I use EmergenC vitamin drink - mix it with water and take several packets a day. When I do get sick it doesn't seem as severe if I remember to take it.
kellygrrrrrl Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 You guys ever notice how Jaeger tastes like Nyquil? or How Nyquil tastes like Jaeger? (Did I spell Jaeger right) Just wondering!
