Brenda Starrr Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Nah. It's not really my bag. The Weather Channel is a real thrill, though.
phee Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 I used to religiously, then I was told that it was not a religion and I stopped.
JaneDead Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 queen of the damned was on sci-fi and i actually watched that instead. then at 11 i was flipping channels and saw prince on the oscars so i stopped to watch it then. so i watched it from then til the end.
Lilith Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 i was at work, it was on the TV's but i did not catch much of it
gothicmom Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I was very happy to hear that Jami Foxx won best actor!!!
Fierce Critter Posted March 1, 2005 Author Posted March 1, 2005 I watched the entire broadcast. It's almost tradition in my family - we were just about raised by my oldest sister - a movie fanatic. So the yearly Oscar telecast was a "done deal" in our home. Watching it was a sort of "birthday treat" for myself. I like awards shows. Don't ask me why - I'm not sure myself. Strikes me - I used to see a lot more of the movies being nominated. In recent years, it's not unusual for me to not have seen ANY of them. I don't think it's the "type" of movie being nominated. I think it's ticket prices that keep me out of first-run movie theaters. If it hasn't made its way to the dollar show or rental store, I probably haven't seen it.
JaneDead Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 i generally like to catch a bit here and there of awards shows too. i used to watch them more when i was younger than i do now. i tend to get bored sitting through the whole thing now. i do like to see the dresses, and the people, and some of the speeches/reactions are touching, and the exposure to movies i have never heard of or seen. and i am amazed it was the 77th one! i mean i *knew* that is was but to actually think of it in terms of 77 years ... wow. the oscars are a big deal
Brenda Starrr Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 queen of the damned was on sci-fi I missed Queen of the Damned??? Damn.....
TomCat Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I turned it on, just in time to see jamie Foxx win. Great speech too, because it was unrehearsed and from the heart. Then, I went to bed.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Short answer: "not really" Longer Answer: Im interested in "the oscars" as a concept, and i've seen every best picture, best actress and best actor film thats available (well over 100 films) and read re-caps of the winners and such this year, as i think the politics and history of hollywood is interesting. BUT, sitting through 'who wore what' and "who said what" and listening to film moguls kiss each others asses for hours and hours has gotten tiresome for me. Although i would prefer it over the weather channel. lol Im actually slowly working my way through "Inside Oscar" which is a history of the academy from a "behind the scenes" perspective its pretty interesting, but the process of watching the oscars, as they unfold , just seems a bit too, for lack of a better term... er... "hollow"? for me. Its unlikely ill ever sit through another oscar presentation other than maybe to peek in on it for a few minutes here and there if theres an act i want to see for some reason.
Brenda Starrr Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Although i would prefer it over the weather channel. lol Storm Stories rules.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 oh ok yeah. if its a specific WC >show I'd be all for a show "about" the oscars, that is , the history of the oscars. Or a show about certian periods of film. Just something about watching the actual minute by minute oscars, doesnt do it for me anymore. I'd rather go watch City Lights again (just something on my mind atm). Maybe if i could somehow just watch the Best Actor , Best Actress , Best Picture (and maybe Director) sections i'd be good.
TomCat Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Personally, the history Channel, or Animal Planet would hold my attention more than, the "Red Carpet" crap. Here it is in a nutshell: the guys wear tuxedos, chicks dress like ho's (Not that there's anything wrong with that, as a matter of fact, I advocate it) and they borrow really expensive jewelry. Their dresses cost more than I probably make in a year, so why should I care. That's the red carpet, now lets hand out lil gold statuettes. yay
Daniel Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Oscars, like other awards, are basically just a bunch of stars sucking their own dicks. It is basically a bunch of "employee of the month" awards for the giant entity that is the entertainment industry. It all seems profoundly silly and meaningless to me.
Soulrev Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I Tivo the oscars just in case something cool happens like a mass murder or something..
