I might add to this to avoid Washington Mutual as well if you can handle it.

Our mortgage was turned over to them by the original company. I'm told this happens all the time - one mortgage company will "sell" a policy to another company.

Washington Mutual held our mortgage when we ended up having to sell to avoid foreclosure. We DID sell, and have the legal paperwork to prove it. However, they reported the sale as a FORECLOSURE to credit bureaus, and now we are SCREWED if we want to try to buy right now.

I called to have that fixed by them. The customer service person I talked to did confirm that we SOLD the house, but told me I'd have to fax information to some super-secret department that DOES NOT take phone calls. I did so, and never heard anything from them. I have a potential legal fight on my hands due to this.

Don't know what you went through, Phee, but believe me - I sympathize.

I've been having fun with Washington Mutual myself.

I had a conversation that went like this:

"I would like to have my PMI removed. My loan to value ratio is 79.78% and according to your website, I can request that the PMI be removed once I am at less than 80% LTV ratio"

"That can only be removed if the loan is five years old. Yours is only four years old."

"That is incorrect. I am reading DIRECTLY from your webpage. And your webpage says only that the LTV needs to be less than 80%"

"Well, I don't know anything about that"

"You don't know what your company web page says?"

"No"

"Well, I just read it to you"

"I don't know anything about that"

"Well, you didn't a second ago, but now I read it to you, and now you know what your company web page says and I am telling you that what you are telling me is different than what your company webpage is telling me"

"The webpage is wrong"
