Msterbeau Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 First the good news: I have just accepted a position as design manager for the division of Panasonic that makes vacuum cleaners. (Including the Sears Kenmore brand) It's not cars but it is a step firmly into product design which is what my portfolio needs. So... rah!! The not so good news: The job is in Danville, Kentucky. That's near Lexington. So I won't be living up here anymore. Obviously that has serious implications with regard to seeing my daughters as often as I have been. Their mom and I have yet to figure out things but my plan is to come up every couple weeks to see them. There are some positives to the move. Cost of living is WAY lower, so I'll be able to start catching up on my debts. Also... It puts me a lot closer to my parents in South Carolina. They have a couple Unitarians Churches nearby, a Borders books is about an hour away, and I'm told they even have liberal-minded people there. I think a farewell evening at either City Club or Necto's will be planned. I start work after the Thanksgiving holidays... it will be before then.
BrassFusion Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fierce Critter Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 This is both distressing and elating. I am very happy for you, Marc. Employment is, indeed, so very important for peace of mind and well being. I just hope that culture shock doesn't do to you what it did to me. Unless you're used to living in those kind of conditions. And you will be sorely missed. :(
Msterbeau Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Well.. I'll still be posting. Plus I'll be up every couple weeks. I may not be able to go out much, but the girls and I will be available to hang out during the day. :-)
Msterbeau Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 what about us??? I will just have to get a longer lens to take your photo.
Rayne Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 : First Candy, now Marc ... I can't take much more of this ... : I'm happy for you though Marc! I'm glad you were able to find a position. Employment is very important.
kellygrrrrrl Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Oh wowzers Marc! Well, congratulations for one!! How cool! But, alas.....yes. You will be sorely missed. You gotta do what you gotta do! Lexington is beautiful I hear! A lot of nature to be seen, caves, mountains, etc... I have a friend that moved down there and loves it for the scenery and landscape. Howz mizz Carla taking the news? BTW? (if you don't mind my asking) AND OH!! PLEASE!! design a vacuum that will not clog up and lose sucking power...thats pretty too!! :woot: with lots of attachments that will WORK! he heh ... sucking power! Keep us posted on the going away thingy!!! =(
Msterbeau Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Kelly. Dyson has a vacuum that doesn't clog up. It costs a mint, though. I'm not sure about Panasonic/Kenmore's lineup yet. Must do research!! Louisville is supposed to be a cool place. I'll have to check it out. Lexington... Not so much. Oh... and Carla is not entirely happy, as you might imagine. Her lease isn't up until next summer but we've discussed seeing if her landlord would let her out of it. Maybe in a few months. In which case she will happily join me and I will happily have her. :-)
Head Wreck Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 you escaped the bar and a welshman once, and now i am foiled again

pharoh Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Butt? Chicken butt? hey man you do what you have to do, just make sure you don't forget about us bro....I know the job situation isn't good firsthand, and I wish you the best

Must do research!! With the number of pets we have, we strongly considered a Dyson. But for several years running, Consumer Reports has put the Dyson far from 1st for reasons I don't have handy. The one that tends to do well on their list, I believe, is the Hoover Wind Tunnel. We have a Dirt Devil Vision self-propelled we got out of the trash. I don't know why they threw it out, because it doesn't have a single problem, and it sucks up animal hair like you would not believe. Seriously, this thing kicks major ass. Reviews online tend to agree - this thing really sucks - in a good way. It would take one hell of a good vacuum to make me give up my Vision. Jon takes vacuums off the curb, fixes them and sells them. Each one he brings in becomes our regular for a while, to keep it tested. So we go through a LOT of makes/models throughout the year. Ever need opinions & experience, Marc, seek vacuum repairers who do this out of the home like Jon. Nevermind salesmen or shop owners - they're just trying to make a buck. (Edited to add: I just know this post is making someone horny...)

(Edited to add: I just know this post is making someone horny...) I had a DD Vision. I liked it for about a week. I hated it after that. I have a Phantom now ... that I LOVE!!! It's my second, I had to leave the first one at the prior house I lived at.
CandyQuackenbush Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Marc, no, you can't leave. because I can't come to your going away party at CC like you did for mine. Too many of us are leaving, we need to put a stop to this!
