Fierce Critter Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Do you care? Does it interest you? Does it piss you off? I come from a family that's pretty entertained by things celebrity. A sister who is a movie fanatic, a sister & brother-in-law who are actors themselves and thus movie fanatics, a mother who can't miss shows about certain stars, a father who reads tons of celebrity biographies, etc. I used to be VERY entertained by things celebrity. Read every issue of People magazine, read US, watched shows like Entertainment Tonight, Extra, etc. Recently, I've seen myself become not just disinterested in all things celebrity, but downright sickened by how important it seems to be to some people. For me, it started with shows like "Cribs" on MTV, or other "reality" shows that take you inside the homes, cars, & overall lives of people like that. It seemed to take "celebrity watching" to a whole new, dispicable level of, "look at how fabulous their lives are" and look at how pathetic YOURS is. These shows made me depressed & sick - they didn't entertain me. So I stopped watching. That happened with other stuff one by one. I stopped reading US. I then stopped the People magazines. I don't watch the TV shows anymore. Anything that flaunts celebrity lives - I'm not interested anymore. The Oscars & other awards shows are an exception. My interest in those has to do more with an interest in film overall, not in which celebrity is dressed more fabulous than the other. I don't watch the dumb red carpet BS and couldn't give a rats' ass about who Joan SuckingLeechPatheticNobodyFuckingRivers thinks is the best or worst dressed. I'm just as interested in the techincal awards as I am the acting, so it's different for me I guess. But I really can't deal with all this excessive celebrity coverage anymore. Is it just me - or has it REALLY escalated recently?
Brenda Starrr Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 These people have so much money, but aren't doing anything good with it. Okay....most of them. You see people like Tom Cruise, Bono, and Angelina Jolie doing good things with their celebrity/money. I can appreciate that. What I can't appreciate is all the "me me me what can you do for me" type shit. It makes me sick.
Ginevra Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I'm not sure how I feel or how to respond to this line of question. It used to be that it took years and lots of hard work (IE Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash) to get where you wanted to be. Nowadays it seems like anyone can cut a record or do a bit piece in a movie and get their moment of fame. And yes, using your money for your own personal use is fine and great. However, when people call me and ask for donations for something and I don't believe in that organisation or I just simply don't like it, I don't donate. How could it be any different with celebrities? Just because they have more they should donate to a cause they don't supportt? Now, on the other hand, the excessivness of some celebrities is just sickening. The amounts of money they spend on some things "just because".
TomCat Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Yeah, it pisses me off when i see a "whatever you want to call them" spends as much in a night of partying as I earn in a year of doing both of my jobs. It's irritating.

It's irritating. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same here. I hate the fact that most of them do nothing but waste their money. But then again I also like to know what they are doing. I'm jealous but can't help but find out!!!! :woot:
