Hellion Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 :devil I remember when Thanksgivving was never forgotten until Walmart and other corporations pretty much ran it off the calender.WTF,Now all I hear is Chritmas music when ever I go into any store,or when I get gas for my car.(by the way this is not a rant) Shit they already have Christmas stuff up on the shelves a week ago,I remember when Christmas stood for Family and friends, and peace on earth, now its more like Walmartmas. Other than that does anyone here remember when Thanksgiving was never forgotten?
BrassFusion Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I remember not forgetting about Thanksgiving this year. And I only know one Thanksgiving song. If that's all they played, I'd go on a killing spree.
JaneDead Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 i personally don't like thanksgiving a whole hell of a lot but i do remember/miss when it went halloween, thanksgiving, christmas and not halloween with a back isle in the store already full of x-mas stuff. basically when halloween is over x-mas is here! i do wish there was more seperation in holidays so we can enjoy them one at a time
Fierce Critter Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 You need to not let what corporate stores do influence the holidays for you. If Wal-Mart "forgets" Thanksgiving, that doesn't mean you have to. I'm actively NOT listening to Christmas songs yet. Day after TG, fine. And we'll be putting out our Thanksgiving decorations, if my back can handle the activity. Make the holidays what you want them to be. Don't let Wal-Mart change things for you.
JaneDead Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I'm actively NOT listening to Christmas songs yet. Day after TG, fine. same here. i do like x-mas music but not for a month or more BEFORE x-mas and before thanksgiving. it just feels weird.
Rayne Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, do you Pharoh?
JaneDead Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, do you Pharoh? i don't celebrate it either but this year i think i will go be with my family just because i really want to see them all right now but the actual *meaning* of "thanksgiving" from the traditional sense/where it started ... i don't celebrate that shit.
BrassFusion Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 same here. i do like x-mas music but not for a month or more BEFORE x-mas and before thanksgiving. it just feels weird. Hahahaha. You bastards must not know what it's like to rehearse cheesy easy Christmas concert music sometimes as early as September.
kellygrrrrrl Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Will be heading over to me mums house for The Thanksgiving thing This year the in-laws will be doing it elsewhere, and so this free's us up a little.... You know.... It's that that I hate every year,.....all the family gatherings and visiting that could be done all year split into 2 horribly jam packed days of stress. Mike & I have to battle at who's going over to who's sisters, parents, grandmothers for dinner, gift exchanges, etc.... Last years x-mas was an absolute MESS....heres how it went... Wake up, drive to Ypsi from Royal oak, drive from Ypsi to my Moms in Brighton to have an EARLY dinner, and quick gift exchange and from there go BACK to Ypsi, stop and drop off the Bro, make a pit stop in Redford to visit my Dad, then go back to Hazel park to Eat another dinner at his parents, and then scurry over to his sisters for a campfire and drinks....wake up early go BACK to his sisters for Breakfast and gifts.....on x mas day..... Ugh....I DREAD IT....it's WAY TOO MUCH! I can't even imagine how much MORE stress it will be when we have kids. this year I wont have to go to Ypsi and worry about that though, so that will bring me SOME relief, but I hate it hate it hate it. HATE IT! I don't even like celebrating X-mas. It goes against my belifes, but I do cause it's the "norm".... and its "for the Kids", and and and and..... bullshit. Ok, not going to think about it right now....... Vent done.
pharoh Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, do you Pharoh? I celebrate the stuffing of my face with turkay (Yes turkey was spelled wrong on purpose )

Ok, not going to think about it right now....... Vent done. Xmas is one of many times I'm really glad not to have kids. I can pretty much ignore the whole thing until it's actually time to go over auntie's house. Most of my family is in Detroit but for the past 20 years we've done Xmas up here... gets complicated for a lot of people, especially w/so many stepfamilies & whatnot where the kids have to be taken to 3 or 4 different households or someone's feelings will be hurt. So, some years we do the big gathering the day before or after Xmas... works a lot better that way. One big problem w/holiday family logistics is a lot of folks don't want to admit how stressful it is. But once someone stands up & says "look I think we'd all get more out of this if it wasn't so problematic for some of us", then the family can work out solutions that will make the holiday more meaningful and less nervewracking for everyone. And yeah, I wish the stores would have the decency to wait till after Thanksgiving, too. It's godawful annoying to be subjected to this intensive holiday blitz anytime I need to pick up catfood or whatever.
JaneDead Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Hahahaha. You bastards must not know what it's like to rehearse cheesy easy Christmas concert music sometimes as early as September. lucky you
sass_in_the_pants Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Please. The only decorations you could use to celebrate Thanks-Alot holiday are pilgrims and corn, and who the hell wants their house full of pilgrims and corn? It's no wonder Thanks-Alot holiday gets shoved around.
BrassFusion Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 In my house, we have an extra Thanksgiving at the end of the football season. It's creatively called Superthanks. It's super awesome. And heck, it's a good solution for people who think Thanksgiving doesn't receive proper recognition, cuz there ain't shit else going on for holidays around the super bowl.
sass_in_the_pants Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 An extra AND SUPER Thanks-Alot Holiday? Holy crap, that's brilliant! Seriously! perfect timing, too, because from january until springtime break is just such a blah time of year. I'm very much in favor of making up holidays.
