Does anybody out there have a DVR? What do you think? Anybody using a cable company DVR? I hear those suck ballz. (Yes, I know there are countless articles on the web about these things, I'm curious about your experience.)

...or are you too busy for Tee Vee? What? You think you're better than me?!

Fred Durst sure will have a run for his money if Jarod gets one of these!!!

Uhm, no. DVRs are like VCRs, not camcorders.

I have a DVR in my comp and I'm using PowerVCR I dont like the concept of paying a subsciption fee for the tv guide channel thats basicaly what you do with tivo and a few others.

Buy your crap and give you a monthly fee for using it? I THINK NOT.

that also explains why I don't use a cellphone

Being that I work for HP I am a huge advocate of Windows MCE. Its a great little add in to XP pro and works flawlessly. I use it to catch some of my previously mentioned six feet under and dead like me episodes. Kind of an expensive option for some but media center PC’s are really nice and work very well with any existing home stereo system. I have mine in my living room with my HDTV and surround. I use removable HD to store shit I haven’t burned off to DVD. Also since its through your PC there is no cost or subscription to deal with. Good technology, nice technology, makes things better for me!

My friend Wendy's best friend is TiVo, but yes it is a bit pricey, if i could get it for cheap and without the setup hastles I'd have it already.... Enter "the computer version of tivo..."

The "DVR computer based" TiVo-like options, are billed as being "less pricey , similar options" but for me, a guy that is NOT going to watch films and such, generally, on his computer, and wants to lay back on the bed or the lounge chair and watch them on TV, and doesn't have a setup to push computer video out to his TV... ugh, to many headaches and work to set it up , for me to get involved with right now.

From everything that i've read, the tech is pretty much "there" and is , as my experience with TiVo (yes i know its not exactly the same concept as DVR) has shown me, it is great, once you get past whatever setup/cost hurdles you may have to jump through to get it how you want it. With the way my friend wendys setup is, she basicly has a trucated version of on-demand netflix avialble to her 24/7 due too the peer-too-peer sharing stuff that is intigrated into her setup. (i havent used it enough to be clear on how it all works, nor how it works on DVR setups but i assume its similar)

Im sure we ALL will be using some version of this at some time in the future though. Widespread TV / Computer / Internet / Storage / Entertainment Device convergence is and inevitability.
