To Be Thankful...

Oh I know how much we love to be cynical and how much we love to downplay traditions as if they are meaningless and we are now so much more aware.

But today I am thankful.

I am thankful that I have not lost my faith in God.

I am thankful to have purpose.

I am thankful that after all of these long years, Laura still beleives in me, maybe even more than she did before.

I am thankful to know her as both my wife and my friend, because I am a better man because of her.

I am thankful for my ever widening circle of friends. Some of which come from this place we call DGN.

I am thankful that I am alive.

And that I do not know what tommorow brings.

I am thankful that tonight at thanksgiving dinner with Dink and Michelle, friends who are there for us no matter what, that I got most of the dark meat and a boatload of gravy.

I am thankful for gravy. A life without it is a terrible thing.

I am thankful for Brass's quick wit, she does make me smile.

I am thankful for Brenda's shine, heart and courage, she does make me proud.

I am thankful for Kelly's open mind, she does make me think.

I am thankful for Phee's and Rayne's devotion to one another, it does make me hope.

I am thankful for Camille's warm heart and bravery in showing herself, it gives me much faith.

I am thankful that a friend I have grown to love said "all is forgiven"

and that another friend who has recently fallen on hard times is still pushing forward and learning.

I am thankful to beleive in the power of Christ on the Cross, and that I will never lose that or fear saying it in a crowded room of judging eyes.

I am thankful to live in this place, even in hard times, because I belong here.

I am thankful for the voice that God gave me, and the courage to use it.

I am thankful for my bent neck acoustic guitar in the corner, because it always let's me go back to the beginning.

I am thankful for today's incredibly blue Michigan sky.

I am thankful for much.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

i am thankful that my future is brighter than i thought it would be.

i am thankful i have all the love i have in my life because many people feel they have none and i have an abundance of it from many people.

i am thankful my dad is still alive, i worry that he soon won't be and he keeps hanging in there.

i am thankful i have sisters. sisters are a blessing. i am thankful i have brothers too but my sisters are just special in a way that is indescribable.

i am thankful i have a house and a bed and heat and water and etc etc. i really do feel thankful EVERY SINGLE DAY of my life for these things. i really do, i never take them for granted. i appreciate the "things" i have that others do not even though they are what we view as the "basics".

I'm thankful for my job.

I'm thankful that my teenage daughter ate dinner today and said "thanks mom. That was all really good" which is waaay out of character so I appreciate it even more.

I'm thankful for a safe apartment to live in.

I'm happy that I could afford to cook my girls a big delicious dinner. I couldn't always in the past so it is even more appreciated.

I'm thankful for a migraine-free thanksgiving (one of very few holidays without migraine/severe vomiting I've had in my lifetime -- also thankful that my meds work).

i'm a naysayer too when it comes to thanksgiving in the traditional sense ;) people get a bit annoyed with my negative opinions on "thanksgiving" and i have decided many times to just stay home on this "holiday" but yesterday i went just to see family and to celebrate the november b-days in my family. i'm glad i did, it was a really great time. but over all i am very anti-thanksgiving because of what it REALLY stands for not what we WANT it to stand for. it's wonderful to be thankful for what we have (and i am) but it is sad to me we use thanksgiving as an excuse to do it. we should be thankful every day and not use a holiday that actually stands for the horrible things that happened to the original people of this land.

I'm thankful for so much. The list is just too long.

SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Homie, I am too (married to a native american woman). you'd never know it to look at her, but thats because her father's Irish genepool is the stronger. And I myself am "full blooded" (big deal) Mexican American, of which all are....Indians when you roll it back, and also, we are a part of the tragedy of manifest destiny. Tell you the truth though, I'm glad Destiny was Manifested, or else I'd have grown up in Mexico as opposed to Hollywood, and trust me there is a monumental difference that I do take to heart.

I find the rejection of thanksgiving in the modern era to make as much sense as continuing to say "i'm sorry" for black slavery. That was a long time ago. And I didint do it. Neither did you. In fact if you ever buy Rayne a blanket I doubt it will have smallpox in it. And if you have ever handed her a beer or a wine cooler I doubt you were trying to corrupt her culture from within by introducing it to degredation and addiction.

Anything you want to pick apart Phee, you can. Anything at all, you can find corruption within it, because its attatched to a human element. In reality you need to hate everything and all of us, because as a whole, as a study of what humans do to humans, we really suck. Now we just suck with greater tehnological capability. But we've never changed our style. And if your human, then your guilty too.

I knew the naysaying would come. It always does.

Regardless - the point I'm making - is that thanksgiving should be exactly that - a celebration of that which we are thankful for.

So I'm adding to my list now, that I'm thankful for Phee's interaction with me, because its a healthy thing, and I'm also thankful for his pants.

She doesn't celebrate it Steven... and I am not going to make her do so.

I am thankful for not screwing the native americans anymore, for if we truely followed in the honor of history, we'd invade their reservations and rob their casinos. And that the turkey's made it through another day of attempted genocide. That is one proud and noble species to survive persecution for years and years of facing a deadly doom of being the main course on everybodie's tables in November.

I am also thankful that korea can't figure out how to shoot a missile across the sea at us, nuclear or not.

I'm also thankful Bush's term is almost over finally...

I can't wait until 08, I am thankful that we are now seeing signs that the world will still be around until then.

Friends that are here for me in my time of need (even it's it's like 2 or 3)

Family

DGN

Steven, cause without him I'd be on my killing spree by now

BF, whos bluntness and honesty is something you can always expect

Froyn, he's more than proven that there are real friends out there

Other than that right now, in my circumstances thats what I got. If I am missing something it's cause you have turned your back to me or I just forgot :p

I was talking to my friend, S, and she asked me how I was doing and I said, "Let's see, I'm working 60 hours a week, and what time I'm not spending at work, I'm studying for school. My friends and family have left me so many voicemails and emails that both inboxes are full and I haven't had time to return a single one. I can't get my husband to understand that this Christmas we can't afford to spend money on eachother. And my bathroom faucet leaves big puddles in the basement."

And my friend, S, said, "Oh poor you. Seven percent of people in Michigan have no work at all, and you are so indispensable that your work is paying you DOUBLE to do your job. You have a house, a little piece of the world that is all your own. You painted your room purple, because you could. You have school at night, which your work pays for, and which will open up doors for you that right now you can't even imagine. You have a husband who refuses to buy you cheap gifts, because he thinks you are priceless. And your friends and family love you so much that even when you are a complete ass, they won't leave you alone."

So, what I am most thankful for, is friends who have eyes big enough to see the world for how it really is and balls enough to put a sassy girl in her place every now and again.

Forgive the mood of this post please. I know I should be thankful the friends I have and such but the last 6 years have yaken their toll. I know others have suffered worse emotionally and medically but most of my life has been one disappointment after another to me. Yeah it's probably stupid stuff I'm letting get to me but it got to me. I plan on wearing a shirt that says the deceased to CC for my 49th birthday. A friend said he thought I would do that for my 50th, I looked right at him and said I don't plan on seeing my 50th. So while I should be thankful for my friend, I can't help but think have I really given anyone anything to be thankful for involving me. I'm glad people have things to be thankful for. I just wish I was one of them. Sorry to be a downer in this thread but I needed to vent. Forgive me for messing up the thread.
