Hollywood Transplant, New To Michigan

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Vena and I just moved to Battle Creek Michigan from Hollywood. I'll be living here for 6 months so I'm trying to network with as many open minded people who can accept a gurl like me.

In Los Angeles I have been (and will continue to) promote large events like Bondage Ball (www.bondageball.com), Kink (www.bondageball.com/kink), and Fetish Disco (www.fetishdisco.com). I was also the resident go go dancer at Club Hell (www.industry-la.com), Party Monster, all the Liquid City events, and some industry parties that I was hired to dance at. I also did some stuff at Bar Sinister (www.barsinister.net) and Miss Kittys (www.misskittysparlour.com). I also do some fetish modeling and have a website at www.madaboutvena.com

I'd love to hear back from like minded locals and maybe get some tips about the scene here. I'm finding out that Battle Creek is not exactly the Goth hotbed, but I plan on traveling to Detroit or nearby cities for clubs and events. Thanks.

'sup west coaster.

welcome to DGN.

all the way from Hollywood to Battle Creek? so was it the cereal (kellogs headquarters) that brought you? tell us your story....

I also am from Hollywood (and Pasadena, Glendale, Azusa, Arcadia, etc.) but my time there was from a different era and scene, when Gazarri's was still on the strip, and places like English Acid, Perkins Palace, Madam Wong's and the Troubador and the Roxy were hot.

Your a long way from the Kansas that you knew....

You happen to know NekroMistress?

Greetings.

Here's hoping the transplant doesn't reject its new body.

Welcome. Do make yourself at home.

Greetings. What brought you this way? Not much that deals with "goth" outside of Detroit. Battle Creek isn't the happening city when it comes to us that like the dark side of nature.

'ello there...welcome to the board.

I'm not placing any expectations on the Detroit scene and based on the warm welcome I've gotten here, I already like it. Thank you all for that. Detroit is the home of techno (I think) so it has to be quite a hip town. I've heard about City Club, Noir Leather's Hellbound and Mephistos and plan on going to them. I've also been told that some of the gay clubs can be quite fun.

I just arrived in Battle Creek on Wednesday (Nov 22nd) straight from Hollywood. It took me 4 days to drive out but I took my time. Most of my stuff is still in a moving truck on its way here. On the way, I saw the world's largest cross in Texas... yayyy. Then the world's largest McDonalds (Oklahoma)... yayyy again. Then what looked like the world's largest bowling pin... yayyy whatever. Then a cross that looked even bigger than the world's largest cross in Missouri.... ummm yayyy? Then some of the world's largest people at the Waffle House a couple of states away... ewww.

For whatever its worth, I'm only here temporarily to sit out the winter, then it's time to move to a more permanent place in the Spring... maybe Chicago, maybe Las Vegas. It's a long story and I don't want to bore you all... just think of me as a flock of backwards migrating ducks squacking my way around the country.

So I'd love to hear about the scene here. What are the crowds like at the clubs here? Do people dress up or do you still get the "frat boys" milling about? How open minded are people in the clubs? Do the goth and fetish worlds mix or is it seperate? What's the average age of the clientele? Where are the Cyber Yarn Heads, Burners, Rivet Heads, and Club Kids?

necto's one of detroits highlights imo

quiute a few of us are not detroit regulars, i for example is sitting in good old blighty right now drinking tea and considering turnips right now, but i do enjoy detroit, the people i met there were all so welcoming.

cant go wrong with the DG.n lot i say.

enjoy your stay for the winter, and feel free to keep in touch long afterwards.

Welcome to Michigan where the weather changes more often than some people change their underwear. Hope to see you at City club sometime. As far as age range, I'm one of the old new people to the goth scene. Turning 49 in 2 months. Steven is cool but he spreads himself around a little too much at times :cheerful and don't feed phee even if he uses the puppy dog eyes on you. Have fun and hope to see you sometime.

I'm liking Michigan more and more each day. Looks like we might be heading to Detroit on Saturday for a couple of meetings, including a fetish photographer who wants to schedule a shoot with me. I'd also like to check out Mephistos.

Thank you to everybody who sent me PM's to invite me and suggest places. Great community here. I did however receive one warning about City Club and wish to get everybody's opinions here. The person who is transgender claimed to have been treated extremely rudely by the staff. Has anybody else here had a similar experience or have things changed in the past few months?

As an event promoter myself, I always make it a point to brief the event staff that club guests are to be treated with complete courtesy, regardless of their race, dress, gender or any other orientation.
