Fierce Critter Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I'm thinking about diving into making myself falls. But what I need to know first is how these things are generally mounted. It appears they are built around an elastic band of some sort, which are then wrapped around hair put up in buns or ponytails. Anyone know how these things work, or can you point me to a good resource page online? I'm doing some Googling now, but not quite sure how to phrase it correctly to find what I need.
DeadBurgerKing (10) Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Yea...I'm rather intrested myself...

That's pretty much how. Candy taught me how to make them before she left for Iraq. It's really easy. Elastic bands and whatever material you want it made out of, wrapped and tied around the bands.
n0Mad Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Ask FarrIL. The entire back of her bathroom door is covered with hairfalls. It's quite scary. You don't know they're there so you walk into the bathroom and shut the door behind you. When you're done doing your business you reach for the door and AHHH!!!!! You're greated by dozens of hairfalls like little fuzzy yet colorful monsters waiting to spring on the unsuspecting.

saechalyn Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I have to use jawclips or they slide out of my hair. My hair is thin and superfine though. Quinnster has a lot of information and pictures- most of their attachment methods are more permanent (glueing, etc) but there's lots of ideas for materials and such.
Fierce Critter Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 Thanks, Saechalyn. After a few more tries, I actually found that website on my own. I think I'm going to give it a try. I'm also concerned about them staying in my hair because mine is sparse and fine, too. Now I wonder where in the world to find colored hair. I know where to find natural shades, but I want to go jet black and red.
saechalyn Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Now I wonder where in the world to find colored hair. I know where to find natural shades, but I want to go jet black and red. Lotsa people buy fake hair on ebay...I've never had any luck with it but you are far more ebay savvy than I. I also found some wild colors (red, blue, yellow, the whole deal) at one of those generic "beauty supply" stores in Ypsi. Dunno if you use livejournal but there's a lot of communities on the subject. http://community.livejournal.com/synhair_sale/ seems to be a decent one. Good luck!
honeymustard02 Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Your best bet is to go searching online. I could give you a lot of info on how to make falls and dread falls and what not. I used to make them. Drop me a line if you like I'm just too tired to dig up all my info at the moment.
Nienna Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Thanks, Saechalyn. After a few more tries, I actually found that website on my own. I think I'm going to give it a try. I'm also concerned about them staying in my hair because mine is sparse and fine, too. Now I wonder where in the world to find colored hair. I know where to find natural shades, but I want to go jet black and red. I put my hair in buns and put the falls around them. My super crappy fine hair will hold them that way, but only if they aren't too heavy. Your average ghetto weave store usually has an amazing array of colorful hair as well as more normal staples and usually all the rest of the stuff you need. I used to make them for $5.00 a set and sell them on Ebay for $30. LOL
GOREgeouslyDecorated Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 what I do is go to a beauty supply store that black people usually go to (they have the best fake hair) and I can get a package of synthetic hair for only a few dollars, then I use an elastic hair tie and go to town - I usually braid the hair for my falls but you can also create your own deads with beeswax - hope that helps :D
Fierce Critter Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 Holy shit. I made my first one over Friday & Saturday. And I wish I had pictures of me wearing it to CC Saturday. Jon about shit himself when he first saw me in it. Apparently, I did pretty good my first time. I'm really pleased. And really looking forward to making more. :D
Hellion Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 That was funnyLOL!!! Your average ghetto weave store now back to the subject
