fallennon Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 I have been craving rare steak lately and I am NOT a meat eater...hmmmm....
Rivet_HeadINC Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I didn't get the whole "craving" thing, until my wife be came pregnant. Cravings are a crazy thing.
Fierce Critter Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I hear about the theory that a craving is our body telling us it needs something in particular. But I wonder whether there's an basis to the though that, possibly, some cravings are our TASTEBUDS "needing" something? We think about people who crave meat needing iron, etc. I wonder if there are some cravings set in motion by the little buddies on our tongue who are often the downfall of many a diet. "I need something sweet!" "I need some Doritos!" etc. Just a thought.
Onyx Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I think cravings can be totally messed up. For instance, I crave junk food and sugar badly, but if I give in it will make me feel sick and could eventually kill me. Right now I'd like nothing better than a giant greasy Pizza Hut pizza with extra cheese anchovies, a big glass of Coke and a banana split smothered in hot fudge and strawberry sauce. I'd be very ill within an hour. If I avoid it for a few days my physical cravings subside, but the mental "want" is still somewhat there.
Fierce Critter Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I have found that I can cure certain cravings by just having a bite or two of whatever I'm craving. This works best with sweets. Sanders Hot fudge is delicious, but I really can satisfy a craving for it with just a teaspoon, with or without ice cream. Salty snacks like chips, Doritos, etc. are harder to satiate with just a couple, however. It really is hard to 'eat just one'. But I recommend highly trying the "just a bite" technique. If you really concentrate on the flavor, and in particular how a sweet engulfs your mouth, you might find the craving goes away without having to eat an entire helping of said thing.
