I Need A Pop-up Blocker

AOL's pop-up blocker was working great for a very long time.

But recently, a slew of MSIE pop-ups have been hitting me in a 3-4 at a time barrage that's gone beyond pissing me off.

So time to install a separate one.

Any advice on freeware? Or a cheap download?

Can you use Firefox with AOL? If so, it has a pop-up blocker built-in. it also has spell check built in. It also has neato things called extensions that allow you to add all kinds of cool functionality. I digress....

Ahh. I didn't expect the FireFox suggestion quite this quickly. :D

I do have FireFox installed, and use it occasionally. But I prefer to stick with the AOL MSIE browser.

Go with Firefox, its a far better browser compared to AOLs plus you can block pop ups. Plus you can get other accessories for Firefox that will make your web surfing experience fun.

Why? I understand that there are some sites that require IE but it otherwise sucks. Besides... you can get an extension for Firefox that simulates IE behavior, allowing you to open those pages from within Firefox.

Because unlike a lot of people, I have never had a problem with AOL, and actually like their set-up. So I prefer to not have to keep switching between windows.

The only possibly exception is, it looks like their newest version is this horrible revamp that's absurd, and I hate it. If that's going to be the form of their updates from now on, I'll kick them to the curb. One of the main reasons I don't quit them now is the free FTP space and webpages. I need to research whether that's available free like it is to me through AOL.

Found anything useful yet? I haven't used a stand-alone program for a couple years so I have no clue what's out there anymore.

Been busy trying to find a torrent of the upgrade of DreamSuite to Pro.

Much more important to me right now, though it looks like I'll have to drop the Jolly Roger and actually fork out the bucks for this one.

Unless... (lets her fingers do the walking over to a new thread...)

I used to use AdSubtract, it worked pretty well. Stopped using it when I switched to FireFox... I have to second Marc's opinion- FireFox is marvelous & I absolutely love it. The extensions kick ass.

http://www.privoxy.org

Fully configurable and programmable proxy that takes out all the ads and crap. Though it doesn't work as good as it used to (hasn't been updated in a while) it still takes out a good majority of the crap. I use that along side Addblock Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/ which I could use on its own. However I use privoxy because not everything is designed to use the defined bowser of choice for HTTP access (and my firefox isn't even configured to go through Privoxy, it just hits the net directly with ABP doing all the work).

I usually prefer to go sans pop-up blocker. If I receive too many pop-ups, either I am on a site that is undesireable or have adware on my system. Either way, I would rather know than just mask the potential problem.

I've been using firefox for years now and have forgotten what a pop up looks like. *lol*

Firefox has never let me down, good luck with your search FC.
