I finally caught the mouse with some bbq tongs and put it outside and threw the tongs out.

ROFL. My husband caught one of the little buggers with his bare hands after it jumped out when I was going after a Tupperware container. We let it go in the field in back, but it probably came right back.

In the first house we lived in here, the infestation was particularly bad. We finally put out "humane" traps for them.

Yeah. REAL humane when you forget you've got the damned things set and realize that putrid smell is the poor little bastard that ended up starving to death in the livetrap.

I will never, ever forgive myself for that one.
