This is my "human" avatar on Second Life:

SL has a really great appearance-editing interface. But it's limited, so you have to go into Photoshop and create "skins" and stuff like that for real customization. I did the lips, eyes, and eye make-up in Photoshop, as well as the teeth.

I wanted her to be a sort of shape-shifter, with a not totally human appearance. I can switch between my cat avatar and this one, like a changeling.

I've been spending so much time in Photoshop creating things that I rarely actually "play" the game. Seems like I'm always creating this, creating that, altering this, etc.

I've been thinking about going into "business" and creating clothes and hair and the like to sell. But there are SO many talented graphics artists out there making great outfits, it's intimidating. This outfit, a sort of valkyrie armor, was done by a guy who hand-paints his own details:

He didn't have shoes or boots to go with the outfit, so I sorta slapped together crude shoes out of bits of his outfit. I talked to the guy and he liked what I did, and will try to incorporate my idea into an actual 3D version sometime.

Heh. I'm freaking jealous of my avatar. I want her clothes. And I'm finding virtual versions of some of the clothes I wear to CC sometimes - including the boots she's wearing in the first outfit. I just got those in the mail this week.

I watched that special on MSNBC about second life and the money to be made there.

I say give it a try! Even if it's just a few bucks at first, you never know. It might take off big eventually. What a fun way to make a living THAT would be!

I need to get a new/better graphic card for my computer to play..

I read about the game in Discovery magazine a couple of years ago and decided to register. After I downloaded the program to play, it wouldn't work because of my gay ass graphic card. So I'm thinking about buying a new one this weekend cuz I really really want to play this game.

I think I'm going to dive into trying to create avatars sometime. Jon, of course, favors being an otter character. But there are only two otter skins available. One is decent, the other sucks. I want to see if I can come up with something a bit more svelte & authentic.

I've done some halfway decent sculpting with clay whenever I've taken the time to actually work on something. I prefer working in 3D than 2D. So maybe it won't be too difficult. I have the software, like everything else, I just have to open it and mess around with it until I figure out what I'm doing.

I went to the site and checked it out....whats the purpose of this game? I dont' understand it, but the graphics look good.
