I'm attempting to quit smoking and am doing very well so far. Its been 2 days since my last cigarette. I've tried to quit in the past but was unsuccessful. I hope this time works out and not just for me but my daughter.

If you have probs, try asking your Doctor about Chantix.

it WORKS.

Welbutrin works great too. If you're depressed and trying to quit smoking, works even better.

The real key to quitting smoking though is wanting to quit. Not saying you want to quit, not knowing you should quit, not feeling pressured into quitting ... but really and truly with an all encompassing desire WANT to quit. If that's the case then you won't need any gum, patch, hypnosis, laser therapy, medication, nothing. You just quit.

Quitting is the easy part. Not starting back up again is where it really takes some willpower.

You're a scorpio, that can make it easier... Just get pissed off at smoking- hell I'm a scorpio rising and can hold a grudge for quite some time depending on the offence. *story* My grandma used to smoke, I never would have known unless someone told me, but she accidentally burned her kitchen table with a cig. She then quit, cold turkey, because she couldn't see continuing with cigarettes if they ruined her investments (she saw her furniture purchases as investments down the road, grandma had some antiques and such) *end story* Anyway, just get pissed off at them!

I don't think you will be quitting this time either. Next time, I recommend ACTUALLY QUITTING instead of constantly TRYING. How depressing must that be? Try, fail, try fail....

Please don't take this the wrong way. It is all in your resolve, if you give yourself an out, you will likely take it. You will quit with much greater ease without the words "attempt" and "try". So, enjoy your cigarettes. Smoke em down. When you want to quit, really WANT to quit and you are mentally prepared to quit - you will quit.

Yep, what she ^^^ said. As a woman I know is fond of saying, "To consider failure an option is to invite it to happen."

Yes, when you are in the throws of withdrawal, you will forget every reason you quit, and rationalize why you should.

It's amazing how fast you lose your will power.

OMG Spook, that Wellbutrin made me want to off myself....bad bad stuff....(For me)

Wellbutrin worked for my sister for a while. It stopped her from wanting to off her family.

Unfortunately, she went back to smoking after a month or 2...

I know quite a few people Wellbutrin has worked for and less people it hasn't.

To me it seems worth a try if needed.

it may seem like semantics, but rather than trying to "quit" smoking, (negative mental reenforcement, try to focus on "being" a non-smoker...

to quote wayne dyer (one of my favorite authors)...

Everything you are against weakens you. Everything you are for empowers you.”

An excellent point and very true. Works for other things too- like "I'm going to start eating healthy food" instead of "I'm going to give up junk food."

I was unsuccessful at quitting cold turkey but am planning on trying again with a nicotine aid of some sort.

The Problem with NRT's (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) is that you still have to "get off" of it...the gum, lozenges, patches etc....giving you the same withdrawals as if you were quitting cigarettes. If you're gunna quit, you need to be CLEAN from nicotine!!!

This is a really good website I looked at alot. Good Inspirational stories and stuff.

Yeah another good tip to quitting is start running after you quit. You might cough your lungs out but it will get that shit out of your lungs so they can repair themselves. Plus running, for me, helped me deal with the withdrawals because of the restlessness I got. Helped me wear myself out so I didn't go on a homicidal rampage. It's cold out now so if you don't want to run outside find a gym with some tredmills or an indoor track or something. Most gyms have 1 week membership fees between 10 and 25 bucks if you don't want to spend a whole month running/working out. Plus your body will thank you for the exercise anyways.

Oh and like some of the others have said, I don't think using a gum or patch or whatever qualifies as quitting. You might not be destroying your lung tissue anymore but you're still dependant on a chemical. Kind of like methadone clinics for heroin addicts. Just trading one evil for another. Best thing to do is just throw the damn things away and STOP. After you get past the first week you'll be fine.
