While you are definitely sympathetic to a free economy, you also worry about the less fortunate.

Wealth and business is fine, as long as those who are in need get helped out too.

You tend to see both the government and corporations as potentially corrupt.

You tend to be quite wary of businesses, especially big business.

While you know that corporations have their place, you tend to support small, locally owned shops.

As far as the rich go, you think they're usually corrupt and immoral.

You see a lot of injustice in the world, and you'd like to see it fixed.

As far as you're concerned, all the wrong people have the power.

You're strongly in favor of the redistribution of wealth - and more protection for the average person.

I don't like quizzes like this. The wording is either very strongly for or against something, which is not necessarily what I agree with.

I'm in line with Marc, Maeve, and Klaus. I don't really feel that it's entirely accurate though. Marc is correct in that much of the wording is so strong that I found it hard not to disagree with; whereas I hang out with some pretty hardcore free market people and we find lots of common ground to draw on.

In general, you support a free economy and business interests.

You tend to think people should fend for themselves, even when times get tough.

However, do think the government should help those who are truly in need.

Odd questions though, for example:

"The best kind of health care is private health care."

Well duh, private health care IS better. But that doesn't mean you don't want people to have access to either universal OR private health care (like in England for example, where everyone has access to health care for free but the Rich actually buy it to avoid waiting list and to get better care).

SOME OF THESE QUESTIONS ARE CRAP!

I took it a few times and got anywhere, from this to an 82%

Ultimately, though, this reflects my worldview.

I was very torn about prostitution and drugs.

I was originally in favor of both(which somehow makes me capitalist) but if we legalize ALL prostitution, that includes child prostitution, like what is common in Bankok. PLUS I have some moral quandaries about it.

And if we legalize ALL drugs, that means we're saying "Go smoke crack if you want!" I just can't do that.

I'm not that libertarian.

Also, BS9, makes a good point about private vs public healthcare.

AND, minimum wage CAN harm the smallest of businesses, that's why I think high school kids should be restricted from it, and I'd be open to a few other restrictions.

What we need is a better earned income tax.

And a graduated sales tax

We tend to forget that there is a basic amount of money that's needed to: eat, pay rent, send kids to school, retire.

That's why a flat tax is ABSOLUTELY RETARDED.

Once you're making $1 mill/yr, I don't think you're worried about paying for mac and cheese.

No one making under a certain amount should be taxed.

AND, the idea of not having a social security tax past a certain amount, or not having an increasing tax rate for the rich, doesn't make sense, BECAUSE

1. THE rich can afford to pay it, the poor are lucky to keep their lights on

2. Once you make a certain amount of money, you have TWO forms of income, EARNED INCOME and INVESTMENT INCOME.

So, regardless of the tax rate, chances are, if you're rich, you're making more than enough on investment income to pay for every cent of earned income tax (and then some), whereas if you're poor, every cent of tax goes down the chute.

OTHER THOUGHTS

Without govt support, people WON'T pay for the best art.

They'll pay for Jackass 3.

Business doesnt do the best at advancing technology ALL the time, but it does SOMETIMES.

Of course, some of our greatest tech advances came from the US Military

Free trade IS a good thing, but I didnt check that box, because many jobs are leaving the country needlessly, because we have a govt that cares more about big business than jobs.

I could go off on all of the questions but I'll spare you after leaving you with this.

"In general, you believe that people with the greatest abilities rise to the top. "

If that were the case, George W Bush would not be our president.

More accurate would be

In general, you believe that people born with the greatest privilege remain at the top.

For every Horatio Alger, or even John Edwards/Bob Dole, there are 100 George W's.

ted, you're totally right about the health care thing. some of the questions are shit.

and eternal, I agree about the flat tax deal, but you said something about prostitution and drugs... we could legalize prostitution a la las vegas without legalizing child prostitution. and yeah, most drugs suck and are dangerous, but it's more important to have the freedom to use drugs than to actually use them.

junkies have bad enough lives without getting arrested for living horrible lives.
