Snow-related Accidents Anyone?

Anyone experiencing weather-related issues?

Jon called. He had a service call down in Ohio, and on his way back, someone in a Malibu lost control in front of him. He went left to try to avoid her, but ended up catching ice, hit the median wall, and the rest I'm confused about, but he ended up sitting in the median.

The front end of his work van is totaled. His shin was a bit scraped up (not sure how that happened) and his glasses flew off. But otherwise, he's o.k. Someone from the shop is going down there to take care of having the van towed and bring Jon back.

I've had to drive down to Toledo twice in snowy weather over the past season, and it is CRAZY down that way where driving is concerned. It truly makes me nervous. He drives down there all the time in all sorts of weather, and he sees tons of accidents every time.

It sucks that he got a $95 ticket for "failure to control." Wonder how many points that'll be. Fucking ridiculous. He could fight it but I know he won't want to go to the trouble. Sigh.

Glad he is okay. Yikes.

That really sucks about the ticket. At least he is not hurt badly. It could have been so much worse.

wowzers.....

thats horrible....

Just Glad HE'S ok.....

Not even a flake has fallen over here.....in Livonia......

Yeah. I'm glad a $95 ticket is all we really have to complain about.

First thing I asked him when I called him back was, "are you hurt?"

Posted

wow i can't believe he got a ticket for that!! yes thankfully he is ok but a ticket for that? geez.

I have a ticket for the cop: Failure to use brain.

Avoiding an accident of someone else's making is not always easy, especially in slippery conditions. More especially with traffic around. I'd not only fight the ticket, but I'd ask the judge about getting the cops head examined. Asshole.

nearly on friday, the pug slid sideways down into a parked tippertruck. stopped 3 inches away, big sigh of relief, into second and carry on

Glad that Jon isn't hurt. Winter driving can be hell sometimes and some drivers (not Jon) forget to take it east on the road and slow the fuck down.

There are few things that are worthy of driving fast in those conditions.

I hate those Snow related accidents...

There I am jamming to "Informer" and right at the third "Licky Boom Boom Down" I cut myself with a kitchen knife... damnit

Wow, that sucks. Im in Toledo and yes the roads are super shitty.

Unrelated, but I was a snow related accident. Blame the blizzard of 78.

the kid inside me LOVES snow

the me that cant cope with anything above room temperature likesw to cold

the driver in me hates other moron drivers in the dry, and absolutely hates the selfishness of other drivers and just plain stupidity.

the amount of people who sat there and slouched when the car on front got stuck and didnt help was beyond belief.

and in weather like this has made me want to buy a land rover defender or land rover forward control again.

Glad Jon's okay.

He should fight the ticket. They might at least take away the points (and therefore your insurance rates won't be raised), especially if he has an already clean driving record.

WOW Critter, I am super glad this post was not more of a dreary nature! I cant tell ya how many times i have just missed something like that.... ... Its crazy out there!

Posted

Failure to control? What, the weather? Others driving? Jeez.......but yay....he is ok!

Posted

I though accidents were no-fault when there's ice on the road?!

Anyway, glad he's ok.

Actually, the cop was very cool. Jon had to sit in his car while waiting for someone from the shop to come get him. Basically the cop said they're required by Ohio to give that ticket. And that the cop would "work with Jon" and told him flat out to go to the hearing and they'll dismiss it. He did write on the ticket that conditions were snowy, icy, and visibility was impaired.

Just an inconvenience at this point. But it'll be cleared.

Back to bed! Snif.

Glad Jon is okay. Sucks about the ticket.

I had to be downtown in Detroit at 9 am this morning. We left at about 7 am ... we got there around 9:30. I drove in about 6-8 inches of snow all the way there ... Saw only a couple minour accidents and LOTS of people stuck. I was impressed on how well my little car plowed right through the snow. I slipped and slid, but not too much. I got my last Mazda in April ... so I wasn't quite sure how they handled the snow ... today was the test ... and I gotta say, the Toyo Proxies and the ability to throw my car in 1st gear with ease and have it stay there until I told it otherwise was well worth it.

Nope, didn't have any real problems. Took 275 past 94 this time because I didn't want to be involved in any accident seeing as how so many people wait til the last minute to jump in front of another car causing everyone else to slam on their brakes. It never fails too. So I took the Eureka Rd exit. Ended up driving along the snow bank when some cars decided to follow the trail that went from their lane into mine. I was surprised that my truck handled so well because I had no weight in the back and the truck never lost control. Fuck man, over half the twits in this area cannot drive. Needs to be more of a bus system near Canton.

i drove in the mess for two hours on Tuesday-mostly on telegraph and 75 and then Wednesday morning on Telegraph and Orchard Lake Road. And i have to say it was god-awful. I went really slow in my little escort and everyone's big pick up trucks and SUVs were barreling down on me. So, besides one totaled truck, I'm glad to hear that everyone is OK and noone got in any major accidents (it seems). I say we collectively move to the bahamas and become gothic beach combers with spf 50 sun block. Snow Sucks. This economy sucks. I want to move! Who's with me?
