JaneDead Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Earth_(TV_series) this show will be on march 25 at 8 pm on discovery channel. it is also on bbc but i can't find a listing for it. (and didn't actually look for it very well ) "...Planet Earth, an 11-part series by the Discovery Channel and the BBC that captures life on earth like never before. Series creator Alastair Fothergill and producer Jonny Keeling spent five years working on the documentary to give a rare glimpse into the animal kingdom. After speaking with scientists and working for a year to plan, dozens of cameramen captured magical moments in more than 200 countries on all seven continents. The result is a collection of scenes from the vast tapestry of Earth—from high above the treetops to the dark depths of the sea. Cutting-edge technology allowed the team to go where few humans dare to capture the sights and sounds of the living planet."
JaneDead Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 right now on the discovery channel. it also shows on the science channel and bbc. www.planet-earth.com
sass_in_the_pants Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 My husband's addicted, and I have to admit, I really like it to. It is possibly the prettiest thing on television. Make me wish I had an HD.
kellygrrrrrl Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 OMG I LOVE THIS SHOW! Just awe inspiring..... so intensely beautiful....it makes me cry to watch it... not sad cry just WOW cry.....
JaneDead Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 My husband's addicted, and I have to admit, I really like it to.It is possibly the prettiest thing on television. Make me wish I had an HD. i was thinking the same thing last night watching it. a friend of mine always talks about having a big tv and watching things in hd and i think oh, whatever, i am fine with my old smaller tv. but then i watch THIS show and i think man... i'd love to see this on a movie screen! it is so pretty and well done. i am not really into ALL nature shows. sometimes, but not always. but this one is better than any i have seen before. my kids and i love it. i love seeing the things/animals/places/events i have never seen before. the camera shots in this series are really amazing. almost too perfect.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Good stuff. Very well packaged. The series "Nature" and to a lesser extent "Nova"have cover this ground, in massive depth for years and still do. (wihout the spin-the-earth motif) But a full miniseries like this is a great way to get people that prevously might not have given crap involved. Cant ever have enough good programming like this. Its nice to see more high production values stuff in the last few years. Edutainment seems to be on the rise, yay!!! Although i still dont think me mentioning what recent documentaries i've watched recently is going to ever get me laid. Damnit. I caught one episode of this. Very good and ill watch it if my butt is in the chair when it comes on, which is fairly likely due to my oft bed-ridden lifestyle. But, regardless it will be on my to-be-watched list of DVDs once it makes it around.

Exactly...I wonder if they make print size photos from their film? there was this one octopus that they had walking along the floor of the ocean and I just thought that was the coolest thing. I'm going to check their website now!
Rayne Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I like penguins. That is all. Nothing else about it appeals to me.

I'm going to check their website now! i saw that too and thought the same thing. and the one with the birds (i can not remember the name of it, but it was some black "bird of paradise", with some yellow and maybe blue i believe) doing some sort of mating dance. maybe other nature shows have shown some of this stuff before? i have never seen it myself if they have. i do know however some of what they are showing has never been seen before. i just typed out more that i deleted - i feel like i just keep repeating myself every time i post here about this. i think everyone knows by now what it is i like about this show.

Fairly easy to get ahold of one way or another. I think I've seen them all... not 100% sure on that. Seen at least like 8-9 if not the whole 11. Good stuff. I've got them queued up on Netflix but they are a good 100+ DVDs down the list. But, with netflix new "watch it now" thing im not sure i'll ever run out of stuff to watch on-demand.
