There are quite a few Industrial acts that do great covers. Everyone knows of the Marilyn Manson versions, but there are some great ones by Deathline (Wild Boys, originally by Duran Duran), and BiGod20 (Like A Prayer, originally done by Madonna)

I have yet to hear another band cover AFOS,considering AFOS had some really awsome sounds to their music.

I think that's been established although I could already say for certainty that that was the original.

There are however some good covers by Sunshine Blind and Assemblage 23 of that song.

Yeah, I can't believe you haven't heard the Johnny Cash cover of Personal Jesus. Have you at least heard his cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails?

Also I like the Hooverphonic cover of Shake the Disease better than the original! (blaspheme I know but I stand by it).

I just found an awesome punk compilation remake of the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show"...some of the songs are mediocre but some of them are awesome!! What got me to check it out is Tsunami Bomb does a cover of "Planet Schmanet". It's called "The Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show".

I dunno...I like ALOT of covers that are made. But I'm weird like that...

The Deathline International cover of Soft Cell's Tainted love is great, and I regularly listen to Leaetherstrip's tribute album to Soft Cell (Anal Cabaret).

AGREED on the Neubauten cover!!! I used to play that sometimes at the end of my sets/club nights.

I'm of the opinion that if you are in an industrial band and you generally sing flat with a lot of distortion, you ought not to cover a song done by someone who sings well and is not flat.

Contrary to popular gothical opinion, singing flat doesn't make you sound "dark" it just makes you sound flat

Sure people still like the songs, but that's because they're tone deaf and can't tell the difference anyways. Sort of like when someone says, "Wow, Megalomaniac has the same tune as Camptown Races!!!!"

Still, what would some artists say when they heard some of the covers of their songs? It's not the distortion, it's not the heavy electronic sound, or the general style, it's the general lack of talent. If the person you're covering has spent their whole life practicing with their voice, and you started singing in a band after you dropped out of community college, you're probably not going to meet the same standard.

If a lot of gothical industrial people didn't want so badly to fit in by listening to the popular bands played at their clubs, there'd be a lot of industrial bands out of business in this scene.

Wow, imagine if people listened to music because they actually liked it, and not because it'll help them score big with some equally dumb chick at city club. Then when you put your x-box down long enough to throw a band together, you actually might not sound like a festering snail-orgy of the same 12 bands you've been listening to for the past 10 years.

(If you need the last statement explained, go to your live journal and take "sarcasm" off of your list of interests.

Here's something for you to ponder.

Why do you suppose industrial bands NEVER take on a cover that would require a good deal of instrumental finesse?

ie: Frankenstein, Old Police stuff, Motown, Iron Maiden...

Because people have settled for music that does not require hours of practice, takes little skill to write, and is generally, point-click, cut-paste. Its basically prog-industrial. Computer/electronics geniuses who are good at programing and editing, but not necessarily writing/performing. Is spinning a cd and pumping your fist really a performance? No, it's just playing the album on a stage with some lights and a microphone.
