Ok..this is the highest contender so far:

Gabriel Tyr Arthur Aanerud

So boys, if this were YOUR name would you like it or be all .....what were my parents' thinking?!

Is Aanerud the last name? If so, drop the Arthur. Arthur sucks and that way his initials can be GTA. Like Grand Theft Auto.

and i'm not a boy (sorry), but damn, that's an awesome freaking name. and it leaves no shortage of sweet nicknames like "gabe" or "ty" or just "tyr."

i looooove that name.

I like the name, then agen I named my son Skyler and now I find that it is a girls name as well.

I like it anyway :)

My boys are Austin James and Elijah Alexander.

Austin is very common, Elijah, not so much.

Aanerud is the last name, but Arthur is a bit non-negotiable. It is my husband's grandfather's name who passed away when we were dating. I decided at that time that if/when we had children that we would incorporate his name.

As a name, in and of itself, it's a bit ordinary. That's why we opted out of having it be the first name.

It's really hard to find a happy balance between a bit too bizarre and too ordinary.

Then I got one for ya.

Chester Arthur Aanerud. Call him Chester Arthur A.

(isn't that horrible...)

i like the name, and luv the non negotiable part it brings meaning and love to the name.

With all three of my own kids i had names picked befor hand like every one else, but i was never too sure it would stick once i saw the little person growing in me face to face. They all stuck and fit them pretty well. As long as you and dad like the name it is all that matters at this point. All kids go through a phase i think where they hate there own name, so i wouldnt worry to much about the what were my parents thinking factor.

Without last names and each unique part of the name having a meaning related to a family member, I have a:

Cody-J Paul ( -J Paul is in remebrance of my uncle John and Uncle Paul)

Rhapsody Lynn ( Rhapsody was chossen by my mom in case i had ever had a sister, since i did not have any sblings and i did not like my moms name to much i choose to use her idea to remeber her by, Lynn is my middle name)

Sebastian Mark Manley (Sebastian was choosen by my hubby casue he liked it, Mark is his step fathers name and Manley was my grandparents last name)

I personally do not like it, although, I will easily admit to not being as "goth" or perhaps as creatively minded as you. Then again, how do you know that your son will be the same? How happy do you think most of the girls named something like "Sunshine Moonlove" were with their oh-so unique hippy names? It is just a bit too much for me.

Then again, I have always had issues with double middle names. So it could just be me.

Subtract the Tyr and I'd be all for it.

The Tyr is the best part!!

Can I ask?

What is:

Moms' first and middle

Dad's 1st and middle....

What is His mom/dads 1st and middle, and then yours?

(grammas and pappas?)

My name choices are family name based.

1st Boy: Michael Quinn K (Dad's 1st name / my mothers maiden name)

2nd Boy: Kyle Eric K. ( My 1st Brothers middle name / 2nd brothers middle name)

1st Girl: Joyce Marie K (My Grandmothers and Mike Grandmothers 1st names / my family middle name on Mom's side)

2nd Girl: Grace Kelly (I like Gracie / my 1st name)

My name is "Marian Elaine" and I kept "Melby" as a middle name (it's my maiden name); My husband is "Garret Hartwig"

"Gabriel" is my great grandfather. He was an artist and an early "trick" photographer. He went crazy and burned most of his work in a big fire late in life though. However, I have now realized that I can't name him after any of my mom's long-dead relatives within hitting some sort of bizarre dysfunction. I own a drawing of his however, which I've always cared about even when I was a kid.

"Tyr" is a NORSE GOD....YEAH. Do realize though, that we will probably be spending much time in Scandinavian-dominated Minnesota among Bjorns and Knuts, his brother "Leif" etc. The boy is just lucky we've ruled out "Snorri". One of my sisters (as Christian conservative as she is) suggested "Thor" and my other sister is pushing for "Tyr" to be the first name (dropping Gabriel).

*sigh*

I actually think I'm putting TOO much thought into this. This is my first, so I guess I can be excused for being neurotic?

It's interesting to see what names others have picked for their children...pretty cool.

If/when we have another boy, I would want to keep with the same name system so that the two boys would have some-what similiar names. So how about:

Johannes Thor Gustav Aanerud

...and if we have a girl:

Sofia Freya Sonova Aanerud

(The Sofia and Sonova part are pretty much in stone.)

I'm not a fan of the double middle names either, though I am all for unique names as long as they aren't so out there that the poor kid is going to be made fun of for it.

Ditto that.

I wanted our son's name to be Leland Aristotle ... but then you know Leland CC!!! WTF was I thinking. I still like Leland, but I'm glad I didn't name him that.

It is Keegan Aristotle Insert last name here ...

Thats my baby (well one of them atleast, the other will never grow up and leave him, I'm happy to say I'm kind of stuck with him forever =).)

Mozart had like 8 names. Wolfgang and Amadeus are only like the last two before "Mozart."

I think is lame when people name there kids the same as there last name. I worked with a guy that his first name is same as his last name.

I don't know how you would make a first name out of my last name. Gosh...would it be a boy's name or a girl's name? I mean, it's some farm's name in Norway. Are farms male or female?

:)

Yeah, the most resistance to the name is having it be so long. I guess I've had four names for so long that it seems normal to me. That...and I can't make up my mind between "Gabriel" and "Tyr". Having four names is my way of not having to decide between the two.

I've been told however, that we may change our minds after we are able to see the little tyke with our own eyes.

The one cool thing about him having four names is that there is yet, one more level of "pissed off" if you are calling him.

happy: Gabe

annoyed: Gabriel

pissed off: Gabriel Aanerud

enraged: Gabriel Arthur Aanerud

conniption fit: Gabriel Tyr Arthur Aanerud

I mean, it gives him one more level to comply before I really fly off the handle. I'm just thinking ahead to when he decides to cut out circles out of colored construction paper and glue them to our cat.

:)
