Finally finished Tess of the D'Urbervilles... I really enjoyed it, though I was a little sad at the ending, however well-done. Also, recently read Piercing by Murakami Ryu. He's one of my favorite authors and this was a really excellent book - not his best, not even his best in English, but probably my second favorite of his of the ones that have been published in English (after Coin Locker Babies). I highly highly recommend him.

I think next I will read the English translation of Shimotsuma Monogatari, Kamikaze Girls...I've been curious as to how the translation turned out, and I want something light to read before bed. I wish I had more time to read these days..

Still working on Your Inner Fish. Its an amazing book, just lots of other stuff taking priority over my reading, as always.

I like it so far, but I have not seen the movie yet. My friend let me borrow his copy. He told me to read it before watching it. He was very disappointed with the film but said the book was great! :)

Just finished a book called The End OF Mr Y. was quite an interesting story delving into the philosophical subjects of thought and matter and their apparently abstract relation...

not quite as deep as it sounds... lol

and i've just started a book called The Electric Michelangelo, which is about the beginnings of the tattoo scene over here in Britain.

Oooh, I love the Canterbury Tales. I honestly believe that even those who are not major fans of English literature could enjoy the Canterbury Tales. I read some of them in Honors English my senior year of high school, and I loved them so much that I ended up reading more on my own. We actually had to recite the Middle English version of the introduction in front of the entire class, ugh. Don't ask me why.

So far, my favorite tale is the Miller's Tale.

I'm partial to the Wife of Bath. Chaucer can be damn ribald and funny at times.

The BBC recently made most of his stories into a mini series... they updated the subject matter but kept the plot lines, i only caught a little bit of them but they seemed pretty good, not too mention utterly filthy... lol

House Of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Incredible, and indescribable. You have to do your own detective work within the book, for the story to unfold.

That's one of my all-time favorite books!

Debating over whether I want to read something new, re-read an old favorite, re-read "Everything is Illuminated," finally start reading the manga "Trinity Blood," or finally finish off "Memoirs of a Geisha." Choices, choices.

Please explain. I'm confused, since it was the first full book written in English--you mean you've never read it in MODERN English before, Middle English before, or English at all because all you've read were translations into other languages, or in English class as part of assigned reading?

Fun book. I haven't read it in years. But, I got hooked on Mr. Wilson after reading that one. Have you read the "Cosmic Trigger" books that he wrote? Those are good fun too.

Brad Pitt and Matt Damon have each offered Mark obscene amounts of $$$ for the film rights to HOL; he's turned down all offers. Good, because it's probably unfilmable.

I'm about to start Danielewski's Only Revolutions...well over a year after buying it.*blushes*

Right now, I'm in the middle of "The New Time Travellers"; I joined the Scientific American Book Club a few months back, and I'm working through the small stack I've purchased so far. :)
