I am actually--don't hurt me--actually trying to re-read Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities. It's not as bad as I remember. I am actually finding--though I shudder to think of this, too--some similarities between myself and Sydney Carton.

Actually, I read that about a year and a half ago. It's not bad at all, I loved it. Sydney Carton is one of my favorites.

The Battle of An Loc (i actually have 3 books on this battle.... the only 3 books written on it).... It was very significant... but few have heard of it.

As soon as thats done, I have the first volume of a 4 volume set on the German Order Police that I want to read (the other volumes are on pre-order).... then of course there are books on Rhodesia (pre-Zimbabwe) that I want to finish too.... not enough time....

For fiction, Im planning to start William Gibsons' Pattern Recognition as soon as I finish Steven Kings "It". (I never realized how perverted this story was since I had only seen the TV movie..... )

Terry Pratchett - Carpe Jugulum

I absolutely love the Discworld series, there's a book that fits every aspect of society, and paints it in such surreal common sensability, while at the same time making it hilarious.

Reading in the news how they are going to corrupt the insurance industry once again. Price cuts for those that drive up insurance rates & don't deserve it, and rate hikes for those who don't deserve it. YAY! :woot:

This will stir up buisness though. People are gonna be pissed if it passes.

now reading: OPIUM a history.... "a grat sprawling catalog of sheer information about opium and its effects over the last 4,000 years during which it has always been both a blessing and a curse"

pretty sweet so far....

I'm currently reading On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, Stephen King's brief memior and guide to fiction writing.

I think he's perhaps a bit too rigid in going against what other writers do, but it is interesting to see how he composes his stories, and it is difficult to deny that he has mass appeal. I.e., he must be doing something right.

Flowers for Algernon is on deck.

I read that! I remember him talking about plot based stories vs. character based stories, or something like that, and me realizing I liked character-based stories so much better.

I'm currently reading Beyond Choice: Reproductive Freedom in the 21st century, by Alexander Sanger.

I just finished reading the newest Harry Potter book. It was good, not exactly what i was expecting but a fun light hearted read. Now I set my sights on George R R Martins new book coming out next month.

I just finished Flowers for Algernon last night.

An interesting what if question, and a really damned depressing read.

I have to find something new.

Goodness, we really are way too similar.

I read that every couple of years, and cry every time.

but if he becomes really dumb again.... will he remember that he was super smart? Didnt they redo this as a John Travolta movie....

It was made into a film, titled Charly, but Charlie was played by Cliff Robertson, not John Travolta.

Unless you are talking about Phenomenon, which was dumb. And stupid. And also dumb.

I just finished Bridget Jones' Diary. She's annoying and whiny; she needs to learn to be a woman and not a girl.

I'm working on Thirteen Days: A Memoir of the Cuban Missile Crisis at the moment.
