Ask. I wanna test my knowledge in anime. I think I know what every stereotypical anime symbolism means...so, yea. Ask and test me. I'm bored.

Hm. Okay. I was about to pull out a really esoteric one, but I think I'll be nice.

Explain why certain characters get sudden nosebleeds.

Nose bleeds are a clear sign of sexual tension or frustration...Ask the 'esoteric' one...I wanna be tested :D

Why is there a shot of a bamboo pouring fountain in almost every anime I've seen?

Posted

I can't remember the name of it...but it's purpose is to scare off small animals. It's a japenese device to protect gardens from being raided by rabbits, squirrels and often deer. Hence why it's usually seen in someone's backyard and/or gardens. Think of it as a scarecrow, but more effective.

Cool. Thanks.

I want one.

I looked it up, it's called a "Shishi odoshi". Meaning 'deer scarer'.

I have an animé DVD and it has a segment entitled "Omake" what does that mean?

Extra credit: If I am looking at a doujinshi, what have I got my hands on?

Psh, those are easy ones. Especially for anyone who reads MegaTokyo.

Mm, MegaTokyo. I haven't thought about that in years.

End of Evangelion.

Why?

I'm not asking why or how they made it. I'm not asking what the symbolism means. I'm simply asking "why"? And raising my hands to the sky in vain.

So are you asking why the series is ending?

Tentacles. Why?

Tentacles. Why?

Ooo, I can answer that one. But this is DBK's game so I'll let him field them all.

actually, I already know. I'm awarding points for creativity.

I'll match those points. That question has got to be one of the most loaded animé questions there possibly is.

I am thinking not why it ended, but probably why it ended the way that it did. If I were asking the above question it would revolve around people who understood why it went where it did (not just the plot why, but the meta-why.) Pretty much it spirals out of control and then goes to a very strange place in both tone, animation, and apparent plot direction. It has to be one of the most bizarre series endings ever.

Anyway. Back to cheering DBK on.

"Omake" means 'extra' or 'bonus'. (Not sure if that's the EXACT definition.) So, when you get to that segment, it's probably your special features.

Dounishi- "same people publication". An unpublished, unofficial manga.Gotta be honest, I had to look that one up, but we're talking about anime, not translating japenese words. But, hey, I don't mind. I'll look them up, I love learning about Japenese 'stuff' (for lack of better words.)

Tentacles. Why?

It (tentacles and/or vines and whatnot) was originally used to get 'around' the the censorship. In other words:

"Hey I can't show a penis, buuuuuuuuuut I can show tentacles."

Well, to be honest, I have never seen the series. So I really can't answer that question anyways. But there is ALOT of Japanese symbolism in anime. Some more than others. Those animes we may not understand because symbolism is so thick in the series, thus we may dub it 'weird' or 'odd'.

Tentacles. Why?

Actually, there are a few theories on why tentacle porn has crept up as being such a popular Japanese fetish. There are certainly the elements of sentient bondage and domination, but also, during a time when Japanese censorship would allow no penis to vagina sexual penetration to be shown, "tentacle rape" was a way to get around the censors. This is also where the Japanese fascination with Bukake most likely generated.

Pretty much...just I prefer typing as little as possible cause I'm lazy :p

But I thought the quote I made up summed it up rather well...hehe

So what's the obsession with plain white cotton panties?

Well, thou should watch it some time. It seems to be one of the core classics that everyone eventually watches anyway. Every household that I've boarded at has had a copy.

A lot of people wonder "why the ending" mostly because production in the very last few episodes goes totally to pot. I mean, production goes from a normal animated animé series style -- directly to hastily drawn sketches that look like crayon drawings with voice overs. This leaves a great deal of people who have managed the series to stare gawping, going, "Whaaaaauh?" I'd explain fully, but that'd be spoiling at this point.

As for symbolism and the two different endings (OVA vs. movie), I'd have trouble avoiding spoilage, so I'll stay away from that.
