A couple basics,

A real news channel should:

have more news than opinion,

actually report the news of the day as opposed to dragging up old stuff on Bill Clinton on newsdays when there's nothing positive to report from the white house, AND

not take a completely unchecked conservative blog entry and make it your main story.

What's not to get?

Family Guy is awesome btw. Think of it like Robot Chicken with a plot.

To "get it" ask yourself "why is this funny" and if you can't come up with a good answer, check yourself for a pulse, and a sense of humor.

Granted Jackass and ATHF are two of the worst shows on TV but they do have a few (very few) funny elements to them.

I think to understand most things though you have to be willing to think outside of the box and see things in a new light, or through the eyes of someone with an IQ of 75 who would find such material funny. Just try not to get stuck on "IQ of 75" mode.

I didn't used to "get" aqua teen... then I paid attention to the characters. They are actually somewhat developed. I mean, all of TV series you guys really hate, how much of it have you seen at least 3 full episodes of?

No... I totally know several Master Shakes, and I agree with you. But he's part of why the show is so funny, because half the time he just fucks himself over. It's great.

Then there's the amount of terribly written movies that make it to theaters.. All these people rushing in too see the next terribly-written computer animated children's film, filled with pop culture references everyone is probably sick of so it can 'apply to all ages.' Then theres always another cliche-ridden horror flick.. I could do better filming a pissed-off relative.. :sleeping

Family guy - I get that it isn't funny. When a cartoon has to explain all their gags what's the point? Maybe they should hire real writers like those that do Futurama.

America's funniest - watered down, middle of the road, let's not offend the couch potato drones that make this country great. It's lame.

Carlos - I like him because he pisses people off by making fun of everyone.

American Idol - brain dead dribble for people that, for some reason I can't understand, like to watch lame non talents losers butcher crap songs, get a one record deal - flop, never to be heard from again (we can only hope).

Adult swim - not worth it.

Titantic - I get it - it's a chick movie, that's why it made money. What you should see is, it showed just how many women buy into that bullshit love story theme time after time. It didn't happen - it was Hollywood's way of saying - no more original ideas, we just wanna re hash old stories.

i have TRIED to get it and i do ask myself "why is this funny to everyone but me?". is it too simple maybe? i was at my friend's house last night and they were watching it, laughing, and i still just sat there. it really was NOT funny. i could not see why it was funny. i can't even force a chuckle when they look at me to see why i am the only one NOT laughing. it is not that i just don't like it, which is obvious-i don't like it, but i really honestly don't get why it is supposed to be funny?? it is not a cartoon thing either- because i like the simpsons, king of the hill and sponge bob square pants but family guy and that american dad one? is that what it is called? can't stand that one either.

Eternal, you don't get it 'cos you take everything too seriously and too personally (yeah, I know, we've had this discussion before...) .

My own "don't get" list would include most of the non-anime shows on Adult Swim... I love The Oblongs, ATHF, Venture Brothers, and Robot Chicken (but in my current impoverished state, not enough to pay for cable so I can actually watch them) but the 12-Ounce Mouse/Tom Goes to the Mayor/Sealab type stuff is just beyond me. I always figure maybe it's a generational thing. Granted, a lot of my taste in entertainment is more suited to someone half my age... but in the end we all have the mindset of our formative years, and the late '60s through the '70s were way different times from the late '80s through the '90s.

And... I find Family Guy incredibly annoying... for the same reasons as most non-fans: the horribly dragged-out overflogging of every gag, the overdone, graceless, self-conscious fourth-wall breaking, and the testicles on the dad's chin, the way I can feel my intelligence draining away bit by bit as I watch it.... but at moments it IS funny as hell. I guess that's what you call a "guilty pleasure".

Never seen Titanic all the way through (can't stand chick flicks), but from what I've seen, it was basically a really lavish chick flick, just like Der Nister said, but also had enough fancy FX & action that the average guy wasn't bored to tears through the entire ordeal.

I like Jackass a lot. No apologies.

i agree. i have actually only seen that guy once on tv and i was not impressed. maybe he is funnier than what i saw that one time but i doubt it.

i don't think people making fun of people based on being black, white, mexican is funny. (unless you are dave chapelle. then for some reason, it is funny to me. )

I may even have to put it above the Simpsons. It was so consistent. The Simpsons are next to g-dliness, but

you can tell which seasons new writers came in. There have been some low episodes.
