hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any bands that share the style of Cradle of Filth or Marilyn Manson? Those are my two favorite bands. I like Type O Negative too.

Please help...I'd like to increase my mp3 collection.

Well when you say "like" it depends on what aspect of the bands you mean. NIN is "like" Manson and CoF, but from a different angle for instance.

Just some random shit that pops into my head that hasnt been mentioned already....

Chris Angel (the song "mindfreak" poped up soon as i read this post lol)

White/Rob Zombie

Fear Factory

Coal Chamber

Pitchshifter

Tool

Godsmack

Therapy?

Mindless Self Indulgence

Hell even older stuff like Motorhead and Pantera comes to mind. That angry/crazy/yellin metalish sound has a long history.

Cradle / Type O / Manson have all at various times listed Black Sabath , Ozzy and Alice as influences. You can clearly hear musical similarities here and there between like Danzig, Saint Vitus, Type O , Cradle, Manson.

If you haven't spent much time with stuff like Sabbath , Ozzy and older Alice, thats a good 200+ mp3s to listen through.

Suicidal Tendencies? thats some good shit too.

DGN radio has some of this stuff but its meant to be more of a "middle of the road" thing, as such the hard/metalish end of the dark music isn't really heavily represented.

Black Sabbath's demonic tone came about from the lead guitarist's unfortunate accident with two fingers getting chopped off. They loosened the strings and dropped the notes so he could play with prosthetic fingers. Sabbath/Ozzy were the first rock I really got into, they are good if you like classic stuff.

As for Tool, their main inspiration was a progressive band called "King Crimson." I don't know if you'd like them or not, their old as hell, but I think they got some good stuff.

Some people discover Iron Maiden and the planets align, this may be because Iron Maiden has the power to align the planets. Their new album is "A Matter of Life and Death" and has longer tracks then the older stuff, but the older stuff is classic and worshiped.

If you like Tool, check out A Perfect Circle. Personally I like them better over Tool's older stuff. But Tool's new album 10,000 day is just.. awesome progression.

The Black Dahlia Murder is my favorite death metal band, they have like a 'horror' sound to their riffs, and high and low pitch screamers, they're fun to blare in the dark. Oh and some really heavy sh**, check out Lamb of God..

Mushroomhead is metal/keyboard, awesome vocals. I'm related to people who are crazy about them, have the logo tattoed on 'em and probably have shrines for all I know.

I'm no bohab or slave, but I have to mention Gwar. Both their old stuff and the new album Beyond Hell are great.

Murder by Death is a kind of saloon/folk/western sounding kind of band thats cool, I want to emulate a sound like 'em but don't have a violin player. Then theres a post rock group I'm very fond of thats more orchestra ish called A Silver Mt. Zion, but they have looong artistic, beautiful songs, you might like them.

Everything I just posted is under rock or metal genre, with other genres as well. After writing this I've come to the conclusion that Sabbath is a gateway drug into Rock'n'Roll, and I am probably a music whore. But it's all good :jamin
