Laptop Recommendation

A family member of mine was asking me about laptops and what brands are better than others.

So I offered to post here because I figured lots of people here have them and or have had them.

So if anyone could tell me which brand might be a good pick or what not to purchase you'd be helpful.

I'm no expert on specs.

But I am an expert on pieces of shit that have a particular problem: the AC connection on the motherboard is put together so cruddily, it eventually works loose and you either have to fix it yourself, take it to someone who can, or fuck up the motherboard trying yourself.

Score on my case is 50/50. Fucked up an IBM, did it successfully on a Toshiba.

Whichever model you settle on, do a Google, epinions & cnet search for reviews & problems.
