As If Student Lies Weren't Bad Enough

Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables. It'll be interesting to see what happens to these teachers after the charges brought against students in recent months.

wow.

*dies laughing*

i can't imagine what kind of sociopathic tools it would take to lie to the kids like that. some people need to get canned for that.

How on earth could anyone, EVER, think this was a good idea?

Ooo how I wish one of those kids had a cell phone and had called 911.

i wonder how much the teachers would like it if you stormed into their lounge before school and scared the crap out of them like that... and then said "oh... its just a drill"

I cant seem to find any more detailed reports about this. I've found it in about 20 places but they are all basically just regurgitations of that same CCN story.

The fact that it lasted seems pretty short to me. I cant convince my neighbor kid to eat his broccoli in 5 minutes, how they found 70 kids ready to stat screaming for god to come save them in 5 minutes im not quite sure. Kids aren't the helpless un-skeptical beings some of us like to think.

But regardless it does seem irresponsible. In the age we live in were all you have to say is "kids" and the next thing you know we are stringing up someone by their balls, im not sure WTF these teachers were thinking. They are human though, and i know a few, many of them have been known to make huge mistakes.

Not that it is the same thing, but when i was in 6th grade at Madison Elementary in Wesltand they brought us all into the school gym to watch a movie. (you know the whole school sits on the floor type thing)

They showed Night Of The Living Dead... the original one, were the daughter is eating mommie and all that? What the hell they were thinking i dont know. The phone at my house was ringiing off the hook that night from all the neighbor moms calling my mom.

I thought it was pretty cool though. Best movie they ever showed at that school.

Troy, you bring up some good points. It seems a lot of times what's fine for the kids and the kids love, the parents get all upset about. Like look at toy guns. How many of our parents played Cowboys and Indians with toy guns that looked very real, if not even real BB guns? How many of us played war with realistic looking toy guns? Most of us turned out okay, but now our kids can't play with toy guns at all, even goofy colored ones with red tips because that promotes violence.

As far as this school thing, your five minutes comment gave me a thought. What if it was a pre-planned code red drill and everything was pretty much above the board? What if all the kids were cool about it and everything was fine? All of a sudden a mom has a brilliant idea to capatalize on the V-Tech thing and goes to the news about this horrendous action and is now looking for settlement money. She just gets her kid to play along and now they're a little bit richer and didn't even have to sweat for it.

Or maybe one sissy kid just wet their pants while everyone else was fine. If we freaked our parents would tell us to get tough and grow up. But now adays if a kid freaks we have to pander to their sensitivities and be all PC about it. :ralph
