Make Some Game Recommendations!

there are no words to describe how pissed off i am...

ok, call of duty 2 for ps2... great GREAT war game, yes, better than medal of honor frontline, i've been converted, but does it HAVE to freeze at the very end of a campaign? seems like it's done it like three freaking times, and i can't even restart at the last checkpoint, i have to storm the beach at normandy again right from the get-go, this is bollocks.

and i got right up to the end of ffx, the part in every rpg where you have to hack your way through the same old crap over and over and over and over to get to a boss fight, or even if you just flee every random encounter, it's STILL tedious.

so someone make a recommendation. or five. but for right now i think i'm sick of shooters and RPGS. how about something more like a survival horror? (but not horribly crapulescent like rule of rose. i'm still mad i spent money on that)

Mmmmm I absolutely ADORE Fatal Frame 1, 2, and 3 (two being my personal favorite, it's real "touching" and has an amazing story line) You ever hear of the series? You're basically (in the second one, I've never gone through the first and third entirely) lost in this village, well it's hard to explain, but the village is cursed and it's loaded with the spirits of the damned villagers who are trapped there in eternal night for forever. You stumble on this camera that has these special abilities to capture souls inside of crystals in it, so in order to kill them you have to take pictures of them. It's way cooler than it sounds trust me, easily my favorite game ever, and it IS a survival horror. I have the second one for PS2, if you've got a PS2 I'd letcha borrow it.

I have been horribly out of the gaming loop since I got hooked on World of Warcrack. On the plus side, I suppose it did, in the end, give me my money's worth, but I am not sure I feel like going back through it with a different character.

That said, I've heard many good things about the God of War games. Totally over the top and fun seems to characterize that one. My PS2 usage has been taken up of late by Final Fantasy 12. I know you said you wanted a break from RPGs, but I had to include it. It may be a nice change of pace from the Final Fantasy fight systems you've been used to. There are moments of tedium, but the Gambit system takes a lot of the tedium out of random battles, and provides you with the opportunity to tweak each character's fighting style without having to issue commands every single time you wanna do something.

I'll also be looking to pick up Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for my PC, and Metal Gear Solid 3 for my PS2, before long.

And I know they're dated, but if you're serious about wanting to do survival horror...revisit Silent Hill. The first one was the first (and possibly the only) game to ever truly scare me.

Have to agree with you here. Played thru both of them and enjoyed every damn minute of it.

Agree here as well. The gambit system was a nice touch. Made the battle move along more smoothly and a little more realistically since the characters were able to do things on their own.

Very long and fun game. I have yet to finish it on the pc side. Have had it since I got my Alienware, and that was back in Nov. So many things to explore and so many sidequests to do.

As a side note I would have to put my vote in for The Suffering. Very good game that has caught me off guard a quite a few times.

The Suffering captures the disturbing and terrifying nature of the horror genre in a third-person action/adventure game set in the mature and gritty world of a maximum-security prison. The player controls the prisoner Torque, a hardened inmate in his late 20s, sentenced to die for a murder he may or may not have actually committed. Slightly mentally instable, Torque has flashbacks to the events from his past, throbbing images that depict the events that lead up to the crime for which he was imprisoned. The game features nine levels, frightening character morphs, and more than 10 deadly weapons from the shiv to the tommy gun to aid in the survival of this freakish nightmare.

i got god of war the same time i got call of duty 2, they're both in the "rotation" right now along with the last 10 or 20 minutes of FFX (no joke), and dark alliance on extreme mode (for when i'm feeling masochistic). actually, all for of those games are kinda sado-masochistic at this point because they're either extremely violent (in the case of the first two) or extremely tedious (the second two).

ffxii was my indoctrination to the series, believe it or not. i LOVED the gambit system and i'm kinda bummed that it's the only title that uses it. i'm pretty sick of the whole turn-based team rpg thing. it's so played out.

that fatal frame one sounds pretty sweet. and i'll have to check out the suffering too.

p.s. regarding progress quest: i went to work and came back and now i'm a level 18 panda-man fighter/organist.

ope. got level 19 while i was typing this just now lol

Resident evil 4 is a great game and if you like platformers at all check out the jak and daxter games part 2 is a bit hard but all 3 are great. the suffering is a really good game but the 2nd one ties that bind wasnt as good. like shade said silent hill is great but they prices have gone up on the games ever since the movie came out last year (silent hill 3 used to be $13 used and that went up to 30 almost overnight) since you like rpgs I couldnt stress enough how great the shadow hearts games are it is turn based combat which you mentioned you are getting sick of but it uses a combat system that is better then the one in any other rpg I have ever played. oh and the rachet and clank games are great too.

First off.... All Final Fantasy games from 9 have been absolute crap. Theres no world map, no proper one anyway. I don't care if they wanted it to be "realistic". I would rather it be bullshit like what a game is meant to be like than have it being shitty as hell. Hell, I would say all Final Fantasy games have sucked since 5 with the exception of 7 for story line alone. If you want to go play a proper RPG, do DL a SNES emulator and get Crono Trigger, Secret of Mana, or Tererioenreionreiohrreioheioreh (I missed some G's in the name, yes I forgot how to spell it). I am a huge fan of 2D graphics, so I won't suggest anything you think looks nice for an RPG, because as of now, the technology level we are at, graphics really restrict the story line and the game play. Oh go try Wild Arms, Breath of Fire and Blaze and Blade those games are pretty good also.

But, you want a break from RPG games... That limits your choices for actual decent games. But fighting games... Street Fighter all the way. Because they have kept the 2D crap, it is so awesome. Its not stiff like some games (Cough) Mortal Kombat (Cough) or where you can button bash like on other ones (Cough) Tekken (Cough). Not only that, but it has an actual cool story line. I mean honestly, miss the days when I was a kid, me and my friends us to smack each otehr around thinking we were characters :).

Some games have come to mind that was Silent Hill, Jesus Christ I want to go masturbate just thinking o the pure awesomeness of that game. Also, this is a gothic forum, chances are you will love it. Sure, its a some what role playing game, but it isn't really an exp gaining one, its more of a puzzle one. Also Shadow of the Colossus is a good game, sure it takes ages, might be boring, but it is really nice to play. Sexy, sexy graphics, even with that huge horse. Mmmmm, crap can't remember the name of the last game, but its really fucked up, really, really fucked up. You like... Mmmmm, play as this guy and you go to all these "different worlds" and you solve the quest there, first ones this pumpkin place, and you kill the queen and stuff. But the idea of the game is while u play it, you are finding out why you are in the mental ward. Won't ruin the game but its awesome as hell. Reminds me of this other game, where you are in jail for killing your family, and you can turn into this hulk monster wanna be, sept not green. Basically, you find out about your wife and kids, you didn't kill them and such, but you get to see you rip guards apart being a normal person, and you figure out that, you never could turn into a monster, and your jus a real pyscho. Awesome games, if anyone disagrees with my opinion, you are wrong ahsuiahsuiahsiuahsuiahsiua.

I say since 8. I mean come on. Gunblade for a weapon? Also what's up with piloting a military academy around? I can understand and airship but lets be (somewhat) serious.

Hell, I would say all Final Fantasy games have sucked since 5 with the exception of 7 for story line alone.

You didn't like VI? Blaspheme

Nub, six is a remake of three. I don't count it as its own. :p

I never said FF8 and nine weren't crap for a rpg, but at least they had a damn world map.

LoL. True dat. Still, saying it is a remake is wrong I admit. Not sure if I have played the original four(Edit: I said three for some reason -.-) ... Know I played one of two, still. I prefer five over 6/3 anyway. Alternate vocation choosing is awesome fun. Story line wise though, probably worse, but hell Gilgamesh is win.

I have a translated ROM for the original NES version of FFIII if you want to play it. Or apparently the Nintendo DS has or will have its own version as well http://na.square-enix.com/ff3 Or just look at the Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_III

Better to know what you're talking about before opening your mouth, nub :)
