bav Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Asking on behalf of a friend.... Has anyone ever heard a sample of the phrase "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party?" used in a song? If so, what song? Thanks!

Scary Guy Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 no, but it does bring to mind two songs. See Colin Slash's "You and your Commie Friends" and Oingo Boingo's "Capitalism". I entered a search string into Google. Google failed to pull up anything except maybe a musical?

Troy Spiral (13) Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 A musical? If there is/was a musical based off of the HCUA hearings, I'm so there! I'm unaware of any song that uses that exact phrase but there sure are a lot of satirical references to it. One of the main subjects i often research / read about is the social/political history of the US. I've heard that phrase so many times its hard for me to separate it out from the background noise of my "musical" memory. For some reason Aurthur Millers play "The Crucible" popped into my mind as soon as i read your initial post. As thats the clearest "thing" i have of the historical HUAC actions being mixed with entertainment. So basically, im worthless in terms of your initial question.
