Even though my body seems to like meat, I am going back to vegan at least for a bit. I have to stop partying pretty much too.....no meat or alcohol or anything that lowers the kundalini for 6 months to prepare for a rigerous spiritual working.

And I have to fast once a week for a day or once a month for 3 days.

Anyone got tips on fasting?

And, please FRIENDS be supportive and don't offer me drugs or alcohol. K? I can do this.

I've never fasted on purpose. I've had days when I've been so busy (when my kids were small) or days when I've been ill and couldn't eat. It always triggered a horrendous headache and made me feel really sick for a few days.

Are you sure you want to put your body through a fast? Seems a bit dangerous given all the health problems you've had in the past.

Hi there,

I haven't really done a fast. I haven't ever gone completely vegan either. I recently bought a book called "Vegan Cooking for One" to at least get ideas for some meals. Hubby would never do this but I'm tired of eating meat all the time so I needed a change even if it is for a few meals a week. I hope this works out for you. Just be careful. Have you gone completely vegan before? I don't know any of your health issues but maybe you should ease into it.

Good luck.

i don't see what spiritual cleansing has to do with your physical body if you're nourishing it correctly (and it sounds like you are). you could decide for yourself what positively affects your spirit.

like... i think sushi is my "power food" now. not so much that it has all these mystic energies, but it's light and it's healthy and filling and TASTY and it usually puts me in a great mood because of that. so who cares what kinda-funky thinks

When fasting, for spiritual purposes, they say that you are allowed only water and natural, organic, whole grain bread (the best would be bread you made yourself so you know what is in it..no preservatives...) with organic honey on it.

Good luck.

In general Erin, the fasting process is supposed to weaken you physically, and therefore create a sort of dependence on God. thats about as succint as I can be with it.

She's already very weak physically though and has been very sick with digestive problems and from what HH said she nearly died from it at one point.

(Sorry, HH, just have to point this out).

I really don't think whatever intelligence that is watching over the universe expects us to take risks with our bodies when they are already in a very weakened state. Perhaps a better plan would be to remove everything from the diet that is empty calories such as high sugar or high fat foods. That form of denial would be much less risky than going without food altogether.

Thanks sweetie. The last 2 months will be the hardest. No sex, not even masterbation.

eep! Well, just think of awesome it will be when you can have sex/masturbate again! I know the longer I go without, the more explosive it is when I get some.

You can do it!

your absolutely right.

fasting, like all things, should be done wiht decency and order. Im just telling Erin what the physical intention of fasting is supposed to be. A fast in general, is to be used as a tool.

I recently read the book The Cure by Dr. Brantley and it reinforced so many things I had read over the years about the power of detoxifying the body.

I was a vegetarian for 6 years, but over the past 6 more I had gone back to eating meat and not only that, junk, junk, and more junk and gained 150 lbs! I am now considering turning back to what I used to eat, but going further and eating a raw food diet and also cleansing the years of trash out of my body.

If you fast, you should do so in an educated fashion and read all that you can before doing it. Whatever you or anyone else does with cleansing, detoxifying and fasting, I wish you all good luck and good health in doing so.

quick question. . .would you ever tell your children that the only way you would love or be close to them is if they stopped eating. . .

Posted

fasting is not the same as starvation.....I am on a SRF fast regimine its.....one day a week or 3 days a month.

My kids have never had the self dicipline to fast.

I hope someday they do but I love them either way.....think that comment was rather strange....thats why I prefer to talk about this on myspace.

I don't know there is anyone in here who understands the importance of spiritual fast except maybe Steven. Which I love because here are the differences coming together.....a Hindu and a Chirstian agree on something.

i guess i shouldve refrased. either way i dont want you to think im bashing you, this is comming from a careing perspective. i went through a portion of my beliefs where i thought i needed to fast to make my workings stronger, and one day i realized that i didnt need to fast, there are other things to do (healthyer things) to make your workings stronger. the only thing i can see this might do to you from what i can see is make you unhealthy, because youve already mentioned the health issues you have.

I have not fasted in 2 yrs because when I got real sick I had to go 30 days without food and it psychologically traumatized me a bit. I was afraid of starvation in any form after that

But.....I feel I am ready and need it now. Just read a book on fasting where he says not only for spiritual but for physical reasons I should do this....it is suppose to almost CURE what I have if done right and sparingly.

And since I almost died I got a little wierd, kinda oh fuck I will do whatever I want anyway then.....I need to be strong and go back to the way I was. This is not good. Eating too much or drinking at all. It is just not me.

Just know I will be more in tune with the cosmos Carl sagan here I come lol and feel better in 6 months. I know I will cause I did it before. thanks all.

Oh I think I get it now. Your saying as one of gods children he/she would not love me any less if I didn't fast. Well yah, but I will feel her love more if I do.

Posted

yes kind of, but more, as a parent you would not want your childrent to do anything that might hurt them, the same with the diety that you follow. the thing to remember is that the things that we have to go from are mostly from what people have put in books, and while these people may be educated they arent making them for you. they are making them for the average person and if you have these medical issues it may hurt you more than it helps. if your child has a cold many medical books say giving a certain med to heal is good but if your child is . . . lets say allergic to that med its not really going to help its going to hurt.

if you want to feel the love more maybe you should do something like. . .idk say you plan out the very basic needs, in a given day. liquids, basic food, set up meals ahead of time, and possibly incorperate them with meditating or giving back, maybe make them yourself? make sure that the kids can be taken care of or take care of themselves, feed all the pets, whatever. then take that one day that you were going to fast and meditate hard core! take a half hour or so every little bit to eat and drink, go to the bathroom, just the very basics. maybe set up a room, or better yet (if you can) make a little bag up and go sit in the woods, wherever you feel you can most connect. now instead of hurting your body youve just had a major cleansing day, eating healthy and getting all of the negative things out! youve also just had a major connection with everything around you including your diety and if thats not going to allow you to feel love im not sure what will.

these are just ideas but i really think eating is probably healthyer than not.

I am trying to eat slower over all and bless my food and think gracious thoughts while I eat but its tough every time.

Experts warn of detox diet dangers...

(excerpt)

Because the crash diets can upset blood sugar, potassium and sodium levels in the body, people with diabetes, heart or kidney disease or women who are pregnant or nursing shouldn't try them, experts say. Children, teens, older adults or people with certain digestive conditions should also steer clear.

In healthy adults, occasional, short-term and well-directed fasting is not dangerous. Nor, however, does it offer much of a physical benefit. If you are eating a healthy diet, you are already fueling yourself properly. And detoxifyng, that's why you have kidneys. They're always flushing you out. With all that being said, fasting is a personal choice, and if this is a choice that is appropriate for you, then here is what I have to say on the matter.

HH, you're bright, and I trust you can take care of yourself, just be mindful of your medical history when you're doing this, okay? If your body at any point tells you that it can't handle this, then by all means LISTEN - there are other methods of phsyical and spiritual cleansing if this doesn't work. K? K!

I've fasted before, and my Muslim friends are pros at it.

The only thing I can offer you in the way of advice is to focus. When you are hungry, think about why you are doing this. When you feel hungry, the LAST thing you should do is to think more about how hungry you are. Just think about other things, not dumb mundane things, that won't keep your mind distracted long enough, but think about WHY you are doing this, what you hope to achieve with this, etc. And when you DO eat, savor it. Savor every bit of it.

Cutting down on meat and alcohol, though, is almost always a good thing (just make sure you're getting enough IRON!!!! Spinach is yummy!)

It is normal of course to feel hungry, and in my case, I get a little light-headed initially. Some people get headaches. If you have symptoms ANY worse than these, then STOP. Fasting briefly should cause you no more physical trouble than some discomfort, not outright PAIN.

That's all from Dr. Sass.

well I had to go back to eating meat. Have been helping a friend with his lawn care buisness....and I almost passed out 5 times in one day so I ate meat and it stopped!

I talked to my doctor who said after years of dealing with me....my body because of the divers and colitis does not absorb iron well.....vitamins wont do me much good.....and so I am low on iron and I have to eat Beef.

I drank too.....because I was soo constipated this week I thought I would die! And that worked too....

Now I got me needles done last week and not drinking for a few weeks did help.....no bleeding at all this time! And no bruising.

So, I will continue to drink and eat meat but SPARINGLY. Also, this means I can't perform the ritual with a certain someone and that makes me kinda mad.

I hate all these frickin rules.

He thinks he is so spiritual not eating meat he can do this without me/us? Whatever.

I met the most spiritual people of my life way back in AZ, they were like no one I ever met before or since.......and they all ate meat. They did not drink however. AT all. None of them.

I guess I think its whatever works for you at the time.....and everything is subject to change.

Eskimos eat meat and have shamans who eat meat I am sure.....and who are probably better at this sort of thing so whatever.

well..... as a laveyan satanist, i have a hard time understanding why you would stop eating meat for spiritual reasons. i personaly practically live of meat, because i don't like most vegetables(well i can eat it, but not if theres anything else:P) this unpureness thing is to me hypocrisy. i would understand you, if it was a protest against cruelty to animals.

(aka industrial farming.) but for pleasing some kind of unknown almighty force(correct me if i'm wrong:D) seems far out to me.

anyhow. good luck with it:) and be careful:D

My body seems to like not drinking...just get so damn constipated. I hate my body right now. I really do. All of you walk around taking your health for granted and it makes me sick. Really

its cause your dehydrated, the more drinking you do the more water you need.
