Ok Girls, I wanna ask. How does PMS treat you?

Mine is fucked up so badly that i never really know that it's PMS til i actually start.

Lately it's all gone to my head to the point where i think i'm going crazy, cuz i cant control my thoughts and feelings. I havent wanted to kill anyone but myself.

My Boyfriend made me notice that when i get to "these days", i want to break up with him or that i take my stress, anger or depression out on our relationship. I feel so srry about putting him through this shit. But sometimes...it helps, cuz i end up telling him things that i've been meaning to tell him or whats been eating away at my mind and it helps our relationship a little bit.

But i was just wondering if this ever happens to you girls

Yes. I hate it!

What helps: Trying to be as healthy as possible, vitamins and brewer's yeast supplements for the B vits, exercise as much as possible, avoiding sugar (hard as hell, but I'm trying). It only helps though, doesn't prevent it completely. Also I have to remind myself on my calendar (I have one that does a popup reminder) a few days before my period that I'm going to have to expect unexplained depression. If I know WHY I'm feeling that way it's easier to deal.

It's only the couple days before. Once my period starts it all goes away and during the whole period I feel better.

Some people say hormones and birth control pills help but they mess up my body so I avoid them.

Me? exercise? you gotta be kidding.

And quitting candy? WHATEVER. besides, I need my chocolate.

I heard somewhere that chocolate is actually good for your menstral stuff. That it helps thicken the walls in your uterus and lessen the cramps (which were bad this time)

And i cant sheduale it down on my calender cuz i have irregular periods. And never really know when exactly it will happen.

But it's great to know other people have it bad as well. I was thinking i needed to go in for some help or something. *her and her wallet sigh in releif*

The sugar can make the mood swings worse as well as caffeine which are both present in chocolate. Staying away from sugar, caffeine, alcohol and other altering things are beneficial during this time.

As Onyx said, healthy eating is good. Salads, soups and such are beneficial. I find that warm foods and/or drinks are helpful. Using less salt during this time is helpful as you will retain less water.

There are many things that you can do to help yourself. The hardest to deal with though, in my opinion, are the horrible mood swings that can manifest. I've heard some say that taking St. John's Wort daily is helpful to them and enables them to stay away from prescription medications.

I'm not real affected by it, thankfully. Sometimes I'm a little more susceptible to sadness, but not too strongly.

When I was in my late teens, however, I could get very melancholy. Downright weepy. My sister gets extremely hostile. Our cycles were in synch one year when we went to Disney World. We walked around with me crying about how everything was reminding me of my childhood, and she was just about near accosting Goofy and saying, "WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING GOOFY ANYWAY!?!?!?!?!?"

Oh, and I get real horny the day or two before I start.

I'm just bitchy and nitpicky. I get pissed off at people who frequently misspell and don't use punctuation. I get pissed at Wayne for being 5 minutes late from work. I get pissed at gas prices when I have no control over it. And I get real horny as well. I guess that, to Wayne, it makes the PMS worthwhile.

Actually, I did read about that study that lilith mentioned that said chocolate might actually help....somehow.

Obviously I don't have first-hand experience but I thought I'd still offer that my ex had exactly the same problems come period time. It sounds pretty awful not being able to control the directions your thoughts take. The most helpful thing I guess was just recognizing the pattern and knowing when it was coming. that way not everything is taken completely at face value and your partner can be a little more sensitive/understanding at that time

I've been fortunate in that most people around me, well, at least the people that I wanted/needed to know about that sort of thing, have been understanding for the most part. A lot of times, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's going on. While I don't try to blame things on PMS, I've known folks that have very little understanding when it comes to that sort of thing. They don't feel that PMS has any bearing on *anything*. Typically, and there's no malice or offense intended, it's men who have this sort of attitude or women who are "old school" (read: past that point in their lives and have forgotten what it's like or were "trained" to think it's all in their heads.)

I too have heard the chocolate thing.

I am kind of all over the emotional chart like a week before my period. Then I have a few days where I'm horny. Then I start ALL over again. lol

I heard that the few days that you get horny are kind of natures way of making us go into "heat" I guess. So that way we're sure to pass ourselves on. lol

I don't really get PMS.. I never have. I get random hormone swings though. One day I'm fine, the next I'm crying all day for no reason. I found that exercise has done WONDERS for my general mood, and I also have been taking St Johns Wort, but only on my "bad days". It seems to be helping. I also find that on bad days, going to a movie or somethign I enjoy alone is a good therapy. It gets my mood up while protrecting the rest of the world from my hormonal ramblings.. *L*

That sounds like every woman I've dated. No offense Nienna.

i don't really have pms, i have more of the random mood swings as well. they are always triggered though, not just out of nowhere. someone really pisses me off i can go from happy to angry to sad about it all pretty quickly. most of my "negative" emotions just end in sadness or disappointment. i think i am just too sensitive. ;)

and screw you guys who make fun of the pmsing girls -- they can't help it!! you think you got it bad dealing with a pmsing girl, just imagine how she must feel to be acting that way and have no control over it!

Posted

oh and by "screw you guys" i didn't mean the "guys" that posted here. i just meant any guy who is mean to a girl who is pmsing. ;)

What about the smaking? I always got smaked in the back of the head bcause of pms. If I'm gonna get smacked it's gonna be during sex dammit.

yes, only smacking during sex!

It may seem that way to some men, but I've been so down, in such a black mood I get suicidal, almost paralyzed with depression. I'm glad I don't get it every single month like I used to.

I had to burst with laughter when I read the post that men suffer from the P.M.S. repercussions. My Hubby says that hahahaha But yea mine is terrible... I get very very edgy and pissed for no reason (but let's face it chics - we always have a reason right!!).... but he just runs for cover lol I try to sleep it off or use those new thermo heating pads - actually they do help take away the pain but Ibprophene (sp?)600 help a lot too! They do have the lower over the counter Migraine meds with Ibprophene 200's now so you could take a couple of those.. All I know is those meds that are just for P.M.S. don't work all that great for me..
