Mmm... no. I have a problem with this.

Not sure exactly the nature of my problem with it, I just know I don't like it.

I dunno. I have a friend who's leg was repaired with part of a goat bone. He is still the most lovable human you would ever meet......

Dunno if pig parts makes a huge difference......in the essence of you as a whole human.....

I don't have a problem with this. Honestly, if they can perfect it so that lives are saved, go for it.

They genetically engineer insulin nowadays, but they used to use insulin from pigs, cows and horses for use in humans.

This is all that comes to my mind in this thread....

I can see being opposed to this if you value animal life over human life, or if there were alternatives whereby no living thing had to suffer.

Which, of course, there aren't.

The only reason I'm for it is because I'm majoring in Biotechnology, so it's kinda gonna be my employment in a few years. That's not the only reason though, I think after the organs are harvested they should use the pigs for meat. I'm also one of those stem cell supporters though too, in my opinion the pig issue is a bit more controversial than stem cell research because you actually have to kill something that's living, whereas with the other you kill something that's not yet living.

Agreed about the ethics vs. stem cell research. But will the meat from "humanized" pigs be fit for human consumption?

This actually reminds me of that movie "the Island" where instead of using pigs (as refered to in this article), they use humans. They illegally cloned people, and they kept them in this bunker underground, and told them that there was a nuclear fallout, and they weren't allowed to go outside because the air outside is no longer breathable. Well, I won't tell you what happened, but lets just say it was a very interesting concept, and amusing movie. I wouldn't pick it for my top ten, but if you're interested in this type of stuff, it's worth a look.
