Guest GodfallenPromos Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Misconceived is the only band I've ever been in where we -DIDN'T- do a Tool Cover. Take it as a compliment that ppl want to hear your voice doing a tool song. would you rather have had me say "Amanda - Boston (Cix, thats a hint)"? I think I would have gotten a beat down then.
CixWicked Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Take it as a compliment that ppl want to hear your voice doing a tool song. would you rather have had me say "Amanda - Boston (Cix, thats a hint)"? I think I would have gotten a beat down then. Nahh... The beat down comes when I'm asked to 'Motown' tunes by young, closed minded white kids, who have no idea what motown is. For example Once, while at a Karaoke bar, I was approached and asked by one of these idiots to sing his favorite Marvin Gaye Song "Aint no sunshine when she's gone"... Alright, butt-nugget, I -AM- black, however, I'm not certain what, in my rendition of Sabbeth 'Warpigs' made you think I was gonna sing "Aint no sunshine when she's gone", but when you decide to pretend to like a Genera of Music... LEARN WHO THE HELL IS SINGING THE SONG YOU PRETEND TO LIKE. Now... Move along before I call your parents and tell them you're a practicing Negro. Yeah, I think you would have been fine with Amanda. Wait... No, I would have beaten you down. :D CixWicked P.S.: For the record... Ain't no sunshine is a Bill Withers Tune. Just so everyone knows that -THIS TIME- I know what I'm talking about. Don't get used to that thoe. CixWicked
phee Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Any cover by Marlyn Manson should be destroyed and outlawed.... Other than that... I liked Devo's cover of Head Like A Hole I liked the cover that Mindless Self Indulgence did of Rush's Tom Sawyer
Msterbeau Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 1. Any cover by Marlyn Manson should be destroyed and outlawed.... 2. I liked Devo's cover of Head Like A Hole 1. Agreed 2. Yech!!! It's horrid... just like most of their stuff post mid 1980's.
phee Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 2. Yech!!! It's horrid... just like most of their stuff post mid 1980's. That's OK Marc... I give you the right to be incorrect... it should be your own choice
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 The beat down comes when I'm asked to 'Motown' tunes by young, closed minded white kids, who have no idea what motown is. see...and all this time I thought the beat down would have come when i used to work at Red Lobster. There was this guy that was real deep into the blues.....but when I told him that I wanted to go see john Lee Hooker Jr. in concert...he looks at me and said "who?" Make no mistake...even as a promoter and booking agent, as well as a music lover, I can't keep up with every damn bands that has ever played a song, but when a name is synominous with the genre, like John Lee Hooker is to blues or Danzig to gothic metal....then if your gonna listen to the genre, know the f'ing basics!!! me...I take pride in having ppl tell me that I don't know about a genre of music, then hit them up with tons of artist. my two favorite examples: I out-quizzed this one guy on the history of funk, telling him that while you can easily transition Black Eyed Peas, Gorillaz, Outkast, and Prince into a funk mix, it wouldn't be complete without "Honey" from ohio players....and this was after he said that he never met a white guy that knew anything about proper funk. and the second: I know who Marleena Shaw is, which for anyone who is drawing a huge blank right now (it's ok, she never made it huge), she was a midwest area blues singer back in the 60's with a voice of pure platnuim. I really need to stop rambling.....too many stories
Msterbeau Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 That's OK Marc... I give you the right to be incorrect... it should be your own choice *Pulls out lightsabre and chops off Phees fingers* Incorrect? Bah.
phee Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Numb covering "push it" and Dismantled covering "straight up" are both good... oh and Coil covering "tainted love"
LuluVox Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Yeah, I think you would have been fine with Amanda. Wait... No, I would have beaten you down. :D CixWicked P.S.: For the record... Ain't no sunshine is a Bill Withers Tune. Just so everyone knows that -THIS TIME- I know what I'm talking about. Don't get used to that thoe. CixWicked OH, thanks for mentioning "Ain't No Sunshine," because the Woven Hand cover of that song is amazing, and I don't think I would have thought of it without your mentioning the song. Also...every band should cover "Amanda" by Boston, omg. (that's my name, btw)
phee Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 When Eistruzende Neubauten covered "sand" by Frank and Nancy Sinatra it rocked
MarsDustDoug Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 No Ordinary Love (Sade) covered by Deftones Shake The Disease (Depeche Mode) covered by Hooverphonic (ok the ENTIRE "For the Masses" Depeche Mode tribute album is good) Love Song (Cure) covered by Snake River Conspiracy Lovecats (Cure) covered by Tricky Easy Like a Sunday (Lionel Ritchie) Morning covered by Faith No More Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden) covered by Zwan (BIlly Corgans band... its acustic and is freakin GREAT)
Hellion Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 1."Blue Monday/New Order Orgy's cover I thought was really good.(both good) 2."Planet Caravan/Black Sabbath Pantera's version of 'Planet Caravan.(both good)
mallochai Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 No Ordinary Love (Sade) covered by DeftonesShake The Disease (Depeche Mode) covered by Hooverphonic (ok the ENTIRE "For the Masses" Depeche Mode tribute album is good) Lovecats (Cure) covered by Tricky Easy Like a Sunday (Lionel Ritchie) Morning covered by Faith No More Ha... ha... haha.... I agree with most of that, especially about the deftones cover, and the hooverphonic cover. Funny though, I happen to think that the entire rest of the For the Masses album was super-lame, and pretty much feel that way about 99% of depeche mode covers as noted in this original version of nearly the same topic. Pretty much the only other depeche mode cover song I can stand is "somebody" as covered by Nina Gordon, formerly of Veruca Salt. I've never heard the faith no more cover of easy like sunday morning... I'm sure it's fabulous though, they do know how to make a glorious mockery very catchy.
CixWicked Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 No Ordinary Love (Sade) covered by Deftones THIS IS SUCH A KICK ASS COVER!!!! Can't forget Alice in chain's cover of 'Another brick in the wall' (Pink Floyd) Violent Fems cover of 'The Reflecting God' (Marilyn Manson) The Cure's cover of 'Purple Haze' (Jimi Hendrix) Or Euphoric Haze's cover of 'Manic Depression' (Jimi Hendrix) OH, thanks for mentioning "Ain't No Sunshine," because the Woven Hand cover of that song is amazing, and I don't think I would have thought of it without your mentioning the song. ANything for you. :D Some of the favorite covers I've been part of: State of Love and Trust - Peral Jam Cover (With the band 'Eyeshow') Opiate - Tool Cover (Again with the Eyeshow) Parabola - Tool Cover (Eyeshow again) Stinkfist - Yet another tool cover (My old band called 'Tin Omen) Pull me under - Dream Theater Cover (Tin Omen) Far Behind/Voodoo Child Medly - Candlebox/Jimi Hindrix (Band called Tricky Dicks) Teenage Wasteland - The Who Cover (Tricky Dicks) Paint it black - Rolling Stones Cover (Tricky Dicks) Welcome Home Sanitarium (Excrusiated mix) - Remake of a Metallica tune by my band 'Exiles Fist' How will I laugh tomorrow - Suicidal tendencies Cover (Exiles Fist) This tells you two things. 1) I am a music whore, and will play anything with anyone. 2) I got -way- too much time on my hands. LOL CixWicked
