Dubh Aingeal Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Television's Mr. Wizard, Don Herbert, died today at 89. He introduced generations of young viewers to the joys of science. Herbert, who had bone cancer, died at his suburban Bell Canyon home near Los Angeles.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Damnit. I was just thinking about Mr Wizard yesterday. Was wondering what ever happened to that show.
know_buddy_kares Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Troy you're psychic.. I remember that show, that was a cool show, compared to his show, even the science shows around now such as Bill Nye seem worthless... they should have an encore and bring that old show back out of the vaults.. even if they are re-runs, that was one of the few shows worth watching.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Hey man if they even SAY the word "science" in a show i tend to give it kudos. All the mindless crap that is out there, if the show even HINTS that maybe its about more than clothes and makup and partying , im going to have to back it. But i do remember really liking Mr. Wizard. Hell i think there should be some law or something that says you have to have at least X amount of educational programming on TV regardless of how it does in the ratings. Hrmm... that kind of goes against my "Free market" bias, but fuck it.
n0Mad Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Aw man. :( I used to watch that show all the time. Loved it! I agree, they should bring back reruns.
phee Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I loved that show... it was awesome and I learned a lot....
Destroit Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 NOOOOO! My childhood keeps dying a little more every year with every childhood icon that passes. Sad really, I mean 89 tho, that guy lived his life and kudos to him. I loved that show when I was little, moreover had to sit through it when I was really really little, because Nicktoons Sundays came on right after, and you had to get up at the crack of dawn just to see it.
CatsEyeOfTheWiccan Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I still got my Mr. Wizard supermarket sience book. -CatsEye

My room-mate and I were talking about the same thing last night...it really is a damn shame he's gone but I'm ok with it...he lived a long and fruitful life, and had an impact across several generations.
