Manhunt 2 Ban Fallout

In the wake of yesterday's announcement of a UK ban on Manhunt 2 Rockstar has registered its disappointment at the BBFC's decision. The company simply stated that they 'respect those who have different opinions about the horror genre and videogames as a whole, but we hope they will also consider the opinions of the adult gamers for whom this product is intended.' Meanwhile, here in the US, the ESRB has given the game the dreaded AO rating, for adults only. If you're unfamiliar with this seldom-seen designation, it's essentially the 'kiss of death' for a title at retail; a number of popular videogame outlets refuse to carry titles with that rating. MTV's Stephen Totilo has a lengthy and considered discussion of these proceedings.

For 'Manhunt 2,' signs pointed to the title being both less and more extreme than the first. Gone from press previews were mentions of snuff films and Directors. Instead, a more traditionally violent video game premise: one man's struggle to stay alive in an insane asylum gone mad.

I don't get it. There's movies out that are disgustingly violent like Hostel and Saw and such. I don't understand why it's such a big deal with games. You don't want your kid playing stuff like Manhunt? Don't fucking buy it. As for adults, we should be able to pick and choose what we'd like to view and play. Period. I really don't understand why they're so heavy with censoring games, as opposed to movies and tv. If you're a kid and want to watch a violent game, you have to know another kid whose parents were shitty enough to buy it for them. That doesn't always happen, I remember being a kid and being able to see Mortal Kombat in action roughly like 15 times due to my friends' parents standing by the same values that my own mom did. In order to see a movie however? We would just wait outside of an exit door for Star Theatre, and when someone walked out, we'd race right in and watch what we wanted. TVs are also far more highly accessable than anything else these days. I dunno, in short, they need to step off the video games and parents need to start raising their children. Again.

I second this. I know for a fact that my kids did not buy a game illegally from a clerk here in the states until like age 15 (it does happen) and by then they have already been exposed to r rated movies.

This is the stupidest thing I have seen in awhile except maybe the fact I just used stupidest which, I don't believe is a word.

I always wonder why people get freaked by cartoon blood.

um hello it isn't real.....

It isn't even real fake.......

Once the kids had this girl over who, even though I assured her in my house she could have the 'gore' on the games, we would not tell mom....(and she was like 15) that she had to have it off because mom said so. Frickin whimp. Good kid, but geez.....live a little. Ya know? Thats another thing....you can usually turn off the gore so what is the big deal.
